nfl.com,
According to Cardinals quarterbacks coach Chris Miller, QB Matt Leinart looked good during the team's mid-May OTA. Miller said Leinart "threw maybe one poor ball in three days" of work and has done some things to earn the trust and respect of his teammates. They are also working on the details of his game. "We're working on pinpoint accuracy -- throwing the ball from the waist to the face mask, and he's getting there," Miller said, adding that Leinart got off to a good start.

Means nothing really except that they are admitting he sucked before. Put them all in pads and start the preseason and see what he does then. If he fails again, Russell is still looking for a job. lol

When I started this thread I was a bit surprised at the article that spurred it. Now it seems that we have some conflicting information.

rotoworld,

A team source tells Yahoo Sports that the Cardinals haven't "been terribly impressed" with the minicamp work of Matt Leinart and Derek Anderson, and may consider signing free agent Marc Bulger.

The Cardinals reportedly believe that they could revive Bulger's career much as they did Kurt Warner's three years ago. If they signed Bulger, the Cards would presumably carry four quarterbacks on the Week 1 roster, including rookie John Skelton. Bulger could emerge as the favorite to start in camp.

rotoworld,
Matt Leinart has taken a "step forward" in his level of play since the beginning of OTAs.

"You see it in his confidence, how he runs the huddle and how he sees the plays," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "His reads are much more decisive. He is throwing the ball with confidence." Coaches are always optimistic in June, but it's a good sign that Leinart isn't leaving the door ajar for Derek Anderson to swoop in.

With all the money they have invested in him, this is not really suprising to hear them go on about Leinart. Unfortunitly D Anderson will be the starting QB when the season starts or pretty soon afterwards.

(nfl.com)The official team website for the Cardinals reports that QB Matt Leinart continues to look good in offseason workouts. He continues to impress coach Ken Whisenhunt, as Leinart is trying to replace the retired Kurt Warner and hold off Derek Anderson for the starting job. "You see it in (Matt's) confidence, how he runs the huddle and how he sees the plays," Whisenhunt said. "His reads are much more decisive. He is throwing the ball with confidence. And I think he knows what is in front of him. It's obvious to me he's more comfortable with the whole process, not just throwing a pass or knowing where guys line up. He understands the concepts of the plays and he has the ability to get us in and out of certain plays, all those things you see more assuredness from him. I am excited with what he has done in the OTAs so far." Leinart said he can't prove anything until he plays in games and does well. "My confidence is back," Leinart said. "It's hard to explain ... but I am good. I have to keep progressing but I can't wait. I kind of want to just jump-start to the season and play. It's coming easier to me than it ever has."

FF is all about risk\reward. With Leinart many view this as a high risk pick who's reward does not make it worth it. However, when you look at the FF angle, the risk is minimal. Leinart is going to be a late round pick who is on an offense with the weapons that can make him look better than he may really be. The reward here is that it clicks and Leinart bursts onto the scene and you have a starting QB on the cheap. The risk is u tossed away a late rd pick. The reward here clearly out weighs the risk. I'm not saying I disagee with the I'll believe it when I see it stance, but I will say, I sure won't wait to pick him till I see it. Now is the time to. Buy low on him and see if you catch lightening in a bottle.

Clearly you'd be drafting him as your #2 or backup QB. As you said Miller you could catch lightening in a bottle.

I'm with the skeptics here. I won't be able to believe it until I see it on the field. Of course, you can't ignore that he still has Larry Fitzgerald to throw to. So I'd consider taking him as a QB2, but only if I had a really solid QB1.

Why everyone so in love with Derrick Anderson?? Anyone watch him in Cleveland?? Guy is a career b/u and nothing more. Now Leinart may be that as well, but Anderson had a lucky year and is not repeating it anytime soon IMO. This is a guy who in 16 starts since his one good year has completed under 50% of his passes and threw 12 TD's to 18 INT's.

With Leinart we just don't know. But what we do know is he's more accurate and completes a much higher % of his passes. The INT issue is there with him as well. He could end up being a turd in a paper bag. But I have a better feeling that Anderson already is.......Leinart I feel we still don't know.

The choices are limited in Zona's QB stable.

Never said i was on the D.Anderson band wagon, who else is left when the Cardinals fans are calling for Leinarts head on a platter.

(cbssports.com)Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has confidence in QB Matt Leinart this year. Fitzgerald said Leinart should do well in replacing the retired Kurt Warner. "I don't think he thinks about it," Fitzgerald said Thursday. "He's just eager for his opportunity. Matt doesn't have to do anything spectacular. He has a lot of great talent around him." Fitzgerald said it's up to him, Steve Breaston and the rest of the receivers to help ease the transition for Leinart as the starter. "Just be consistent -- play at a high level every day, and I’m not talking about Sundays, I'm talking about practice where you make the biggest strides in developing that chemistry with receivers," Fitzgerald said.
