  • The Chicago Sun-Times reports Bears fifth-round draft pick WR Johnny Knox looks like he'll contribute immediately. He has world-class speed and has caught everything thrown his way. He could wind up having a significantly better season than third-round pick WR Juaquin Iglesias. "He's not going to be held back from playing because of not grasping [the playbook]," OC Ron Turner said. "We'll call what he knows when he's in there if he continues to play as he has." Whoever fits best with Cutler gets to play.

That's the part that I like the best. It shows a wide open competition at WR. Too many times a QB in a new situation has to work withing the confines of who the coaching staff feels is the best WRs.

Keep in mind that the Bears have also been mentioned in rumors regarding Plax. That would obviously upset the apple cart for Knox as well as Earl Bennett.

or Knox = Josh Morgan?? Lot of hype, never materializes....???

It probably won't matter much as Knox won't find himself as draftable material.

From the mocks I've done the only Bears WR I see getting drafted at Devin in the 9th-11th range, and sometimes Earl Bennett in the 14th-15th range.

Chances are that in most re-drafts the best Bears WR won't even be on a roster, similar to Eddie Royal last year. Then that WR will bust out and everyone will scramble to pick him up.

that is why you want to forsee this and stash the super sleeper away before the mad dash....many tired this with morgan last year and it didn't pan out. If Knox continues to get high praise many will do the same with him.....

There are a lot of those sleeper/late round WRs this year. Bennett remains my favorite, but I see a lot of people loading up on the NYGs late. Tons of flyer picks on rookie WRs as well.

Keep in mind that official training camps haven't started yet. This is why I dislike any draft of any type that occurs before late August. In this context, if I was drafting this week/weekend, I'm looking at Bennett and/or Knox with late round picks. If Chicago acquires a clear-cut #1 WR between now and week 1, neither of those guys is draftable unless you're in a very deep dynasty league.

As far as the Morgan comparison, it's a fair one, but Knox's QB situation is much more favorable than Morgan's was going into last year and he still may emerge given the opportunity.

Like I said, it's still early yet.

Another thing to consider is your looking at 15 round 12 teams mocks. When the real deal comes around and you draft 18-20 rounds there is room for more flyers. Even more so when it's a larger 14-16 team league, then these guys really come into play.
