Kelley Washington is a Raven

The Baltimore Ravens have reached agreement with unrestricted free-agent wide receiver Kelley Washington, who auditioned for the team at last weekend's minicamp.

Terms of the agreement, confirmed by sources close to the team and to Washington, were not yet available. Washington will officially sign the contract by next Monday, after he passes a physical exam, and the Ravens commence their passing camp.

Washington sucks. I just dont understand why Ozzie can find gems at 20 other starting positions but cant trot two decent WRs on the field at the same time.

Why is everyone so down on Washington? He's never really ever been given a chance to prove himself.

There was a story going around for a little while that Harrison was done that his knee was too much. He later refuted that...but notice no one is lining up to sign him.

Well, lets see:

The injuries he has had are freaky. This guy is a Ray Lewis attitude adjustment away from a nursing home with that neck.

In 68 games he has a whopping 72 receptions for 893 yds and 9 TDs. Since 2003. When he was a 3rd round pick (65).

In 68 games Washington has just six starts.

He has not played a full season since 2004.

He has 1 catch in the last two years.

He played in 14 games during the Patriots 18-1 run. The one where they blew out multiple teams to the point Brady was on the sidelines smoking cigs by halftime. Washington had NO receptions that season. Records show even JVirtue had a reception against the Redskins that year for the Pats.

Those are just a few of the reasons Bull.

Maybe we signed him to be more of a special teams player that can catch the ball once in a while im glad we signed him instead of Jerry Porter

Chances are you got a WR who has a 50.50 shot of making your team. If he does, expect him to haul in 5-10 catches, make a few special teams tackles, and be injured or inactive at least 8 games.

I admit I am not up to speed on his injuries so I will assume all this is true but when you consider the players he was playing behind in Cincy and then NE it still tempers the final assessment a little bit. Since he rookies season when he did show promise he hasn't had much time on the field. (I am not sure that is all on him or at least partially due to the situations he was in)

Hopefully no one thinks he is going to suddenly become the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice but I could see him as a valid #3 WR for the team if he can take the field.

He had 32 games in Cincy to do SOMETHING. He had lots of chances to rack some stats in garbage time with NE. I dont think the guy has "it", but in any event its a signing on the cheap for your team to get a body in camp.

Games behind who? Ocho stinko, Housh, Henry. I don't believe Washington to be a superstar, but I was just saying he hasn't been given a lot of opportunity. Expecting him to unseat the existing Cinci WRs or the NE WRs isn't a realistic chance. This is his first chance to move into a team that doesn't have superstar WRs. As far as garbage time in NE, there wasn't any or don't you recall the 10 million painful debates on Bellicheat playing his starters all the way through the 4th quarter. Injuries are definitely a concern, but Fragile Fred Taylor got hurt every year for 5 years it seams like before he put together a solid injury free year. I sware I saw him get hit in the balls and be out for 6 weeks.

Nail head, meet hammer. Hammer, meet nail head.

It is likely that Mason will miss all of training camp and the Ravens don't really have anyone behind Clayton. I mean, they did just sign Eron Riley and Isaiah Williams, but there really isn't anyone behind Clayton. They signed Washington mainly to create competition and to build depth - especially since they did not address their lack of WR depth in the draft.

The Ravens don't have any weird fantastical prophecies about Washington. It is what it is = build depth & create competition.

What? Baltimore doesn't want to pay Porter 10mil to catch 11 balls all year long like he did in Jax last year ? LOL I was so glad to see him go from here.

No where in that post did I say he should have unseated four of the games top WRs.

There were chances in NE. Certainly enough to catch more than .5 passes a year. If he's not hurt and yet "inactive" it leads me to believe he couldnt perform well enough to earn a spot on the field.

Of course Fred was actually on the field. Fred had the talent to be a starter in this league and continued to see time when he split with MJD. Kelley Washington has done next to nothing.

We'll have to agree to disagree. You're saying he's had chances and I'm saying he hasn't. There are players throughout the league who are very good and never get a real shot for no other reason than the coach may not have noticed him. Ryan Grant could've easily been one of those guys. Hell, Tom Brady could've been one of those guys if Bledsoe doesn't get hurt. I'm absolutely NOT saying Washington is a Tom Brady waiting to happen. I'm just saying he doesn't fit in NE or Cinci as a WR3, but he may easily fill that role in Baltimore. Bythe way Meachum for NO was inactive while he wasn't hurt and I haven't given up on him yet either.

NEVER question the Oz-man ;)

Been listening to talk sports radio and there are some strong opinions on this signing, Raven WR Mark Clayton was on that station during a recent interview and professed a c certain amount of surprise at the ability Washington demonstrated. I think the potential is there, and maybe a change of scenery might help the guy.

Will he be a #1 or a #2, maybe not, but I think he can emerge as a tangible asset on offense, and gives them better depth. Also, it likely signals they will not be in the Boldin sweepstakes.

As a Cincy homer who has seen about as much of this kid as you could have.....I wouldn't be too excited, this is one of those Rat's Ass signings. Washington's issue in Cincy was he couldn't even make active roster's for the games.....so it wasn't the fact that he couldn't do anything against the top 3 WR's.....it was the 4th and 5th WR's who were beating him out....the reason?? ST's! He sucks on ST's and they had no faith in him there, so other WR's with more ST's abilities got the nod. He gets a shot in NE and guys like Jabbar Gaffney proved to be too much competion for him......again, it's not Moss and Welker, he couldn't even get past the lower level guys.

His injury history is rough as Sarge pointed out. He might stick as a 3rd or 4th WR in Baltimore, but that is not sating much given their WR group. I wouldn't be suprised if he's doesn't make the cut from TC though. Here's a guy who had some promise, but just never put it together and wasn't willing to do the little things to help himself get more opportunities.
