rotoworld,

Antonio Gates has been excused from Chargers OTAs to have his foot checked out by a doctor in North Carolina.

He's likely visiting with Dr. Robert Anderson. Gates has played through foot problems several seasons running, so this may be cause for concern. Another procedure on the foot would likely knock him out into training camp.

(nfl.com)Chargers TE Antonio Gates was still absent from Thursday's minicamp practice. He had his sore foot looked at Wednesday in North Carolina. "I think they gave him some treatment, and I think he's going to be fine," coach Norv Turner said. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Gates could return to minicamp Friday, although he's not expected to practice.

Analysis: Turner initially downplayed the foot injury, saying "it's nothing that we have a major concern about," but it's definitely something Fantasy owners need to monitor.

rotoworld,
Antonio Gates has been diagnosed with a "minor form" of plantar fasciitis.

A injury common among basketball players, plantar fasciitis is essentially a sore foot. All Gates can do is rest it and treat it, which he will now do for 2-3 weeks. It does have the potential to linger, but considering we are more than four months away from Week 1, it's not a major concern. Gates has probably been playing with it for a few years.

(RotoWire) Gates is not on the practice field with the Chargers yet as he recovers from a mild form of plantar fasciitis, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Analysis: While the issue isn't thought to be a major concern for Gates, the Chargers are taking the cautious route here with their star tight end at this stage.

rotoworld,
Though Antonio Gates (plantar fasciitis) insists he's feeling "much better," he acknowledges that he could be limited in training camp.

"It's a lot better [now]. It was bothering me to walk around," said Gates. "Once I start back running I will kind of get an idea. Then I can determine whether the foot is healthy enough." Gates had been ordered to rest for three weeks, so he won't return to football activities until after spring practices are over. While the subsiding of pain is encouraging, it's an injury that could linger with NFL pounding. We'll feel better about his prospects for 2010 if he's back to 100 percent by August.
