John Fox is a Moron

efactor

Coming at you
Williams: 13 carries for 122 yards
Stewart: 12 carries for 43 yards

As a coach, if I'm only going to run the ball 25 times, I would make sure Williams got it 20 times. Plus, why do you have to take Williams out after a first down run for 9 yards? I don't think it wore him down. Maybe leave him in for the entire series and let him get a roll going?

Also:

1st down at the 6. 3 straight passes. Field Goal
1st down at the 8. A Stewart run for no gain and 2 passes. Field Goal.

Neither time did Williams touch the ball. You have one of the top 4 RBs in the NFL and you don't use him? Must be a strategy that is so complex that it is beyond my comprehension.

Not to mention that it was DiWill that played a key part in getting them into those first and goal situations to start with. Those passes in the red zone lais a solid case of the red butt on me and I don't own DiWill in any league.

Fox seems to think that Stewart is a better short yardage back. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see it. What I see is Stewart getting stuffed on 3rd and short. Give the ball to your best back. I guess he is saving him for the playoffs that they are not going to make. An amazing player who is under utilized............

I should be happy since SF has their #1 next year, but I really like to watch Williams play and it pains me to see a much less talented back get 40-50 percent of the action.............

This goes back to a couple years ago, before DeAngelo Williams really broke out. John Fox went on record then saying he didn't feel that Williams was a durable "every down" back and that he was going to limit his carries.

Right or wrong, he is trying to stick with that.

In reality, he could run the hell out of Williams for the remainder of the season, and what does he get out of it? Great stats for Williams (and his fantasy owners) and a wore down running back when they start their 2010 campaign.

Maybe some additional wins and a playoff spot?

Giving Williams 20-22 touches a game isn't going to ruin him for 2010. Even if you want to limit his touches, why take him out when you're in the red zone? Isn't that where you would really want to utilize him? The guy smells the end zone.

Also, maybe Fox underestimated Williams ability as a back who can carry the load. After all, he continued to start Deshawn Foster, a guy who isn't even in the league two years after being the starter over Williams.

Fox panics whenever they get behind and he starts putting the game in Jakes hand. Happened in the playoffs last year against Arizona. Ran all over them the first drive, then Jakes throws a pick six, they get behind by a score and they abandon the running game and lose big. Happened again tonight. Got behind 14-3 and end up throwing the ball 43 times. Threw a bomb on 3rd and 1. Maybe give it to Williams and let him get the first down. Guy just doesn't seem to get what the casual fan seems to understand. They need to commit to the run in order to win. But hey, the more games they lose, the better the pick for SF........

Additional wins doesn't do anything for player evaluation. We are in week 11 of the season, the Panthers are going nowhere, so Stewart is going to get his share of carries.

It is possible that Fox is underestimating Williams. Won't be the first time a coach has underestimated a player. At the same time, maybe there are things the coach sees, that we don't see.

That said, Williams, through 10 games, was averaging over 18 carries a game and over 2 receptions per game (not sure on how many actual targets). Not many running backs are going to get more action than that the way coaches are dividing up the carries these days.

IMO, part of the reason they are going nowhere is the way Fox has utilized Williams. They have had several winnable games, including tonight, that maybe they come out on top if Williams gets a few more carries. As I pointed out in the initial post, they had first and goal on two occasions and Williams doesn't touch the ball either time. Sorry, but that is just plain stupidity. You don't take your best player out in the red zone. Can you imagine San Diego taking LT (two year ago version) out of the game when they have the ball in close? Hell no. That's when you want him in the most. Money time.

Anyway, I just don't understand what Fox is doing. Williams has had 20 rushing attempts only 3 times this year. A big reason they are 4-6 and probably missing the playoffs this year............

What was killing me was how many 3 and 1 situations they had and they put the ball in Jake's hands to get sacked or throw an incompletion... I guess that makes sense when you have one of the top run games in the league. As a Panther fan, I'm ready for Jake and Fox to be gone.

John Fox may be a moron....but Megan fox is HOT!

Since I agree on all points, I will use this as an opportunity to shamelessly post a Megan Fox Pic:
