I'd rank it as an interesting hire at the very least right now while ackowledging that Sarge might well end up being correct. I wish him lots of luck and hope he does well on the left coast.

Its a terrible hire. The guy is a career .500 coach with one year of college experience as a grad assistant. He has nothing on his resume to suggest he will be successful.

Mora never got a fair shot with either the Falcons or Seahawks. He is a solid coach and a great hire for UCLA because:

- tireless, energetic coach who puts in tons of hours
- Part of the Don James coaching tree which includes Nick Saban, Gary Pinkel, and Dave Christensen.
- Has numerous coaching connections, which will make it easier to assemble a top notch staff
- is a defensive specialist, specifically defensive backfield, which should help the Bruins against the Pac-10's explosive offenses
- Is a top notch recruiter. He was put in charge of recruiting free agents for three different NFL teams.
- He is a workout and conditioning freak. Not only will he whip them into shape but will also be a role model.

As long as UCLA gives him the resources to put together a solid staff, this should be a slam dunk hire. As many of you know, Mora was the guy I wanted Washington to hire when they fired the fraud.

Ok......

Many coaches are tireless and energetic. Not a big news flash there.
Not every coach in a great tree is good. Look at Haley and Sparano off The Tuna's tree
Id venture to say his connections are no better than at least 60 other D1 frontmen
I cant argue defense
Recruting young men to UCLA is much different than selling free agents in the NFL. Totally different ballgame.
The strength and conditioning thing cant really be argued.

and you know UCLA's history of not throwing money and resourses at the program. This guy is NOT the next coming of Pete Carroll.

I understand your point, but UCLA has had that need for many many years and has consistently failed to do so.

Mora hired away UW's top recruiter to be an assistant coach and then quickly jacked two verbal commits away from UW. Ouch.
