Jets Release Thomas Jones

News: The Jets officially announced that they will release veteran RB Thomas Jones before the start of the new NFL season on March 5, ending his three-year tenure with the club. "When I got here Thomas immediately became one of my guys," coach Rex Ryan said in a statement. "He had one of his best years last season -- might have been his best. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as a player and a person. As I said the other day, this is one of the tough decisions we had to make for our organization."
Analysis: The veteran posted career-bests across the board with 1,402 rushing yards on 331 carries and 14 touchdowns, adding another 58 yards on 10 catches. But Jones has also hit some red flag landmarks defined from our research on when a running back begins to deteriorate: He has nearly 2,300 career carries and eight full seasons of work under his belt. The only positive is that Jones has never suffered a major leg, ankle, foot or knee injury (he did ding his knee in the '09 postseason, which limited him). With several teams looking for running back help for this season, expect Jones to land on his feet and at least split carries.

There's going to be a glut of RB's this year available in Free Agency, gonna be very interesting how it all shakes out.

I grabbed Greene off the ww late last season and couldn't be happier. He should be a nice compliment to Chris Johnson and will only cost a 16 rnd draft pick to keep.

Jones will have to be watched as to where he lands. He's got Chicago Bear written all over him and would round out their backfield nicely.

I could see Jones landing in Cleveland, RBBC with Jerome Harrison perhaps. S.D. for a year maybe. I just hope he doesn't end up in Seattle, I got a feeling the wheels are about to fall off for this guy.

It's going to be nice to have a RB in HG's worth a damn this next year! Watch out for Greene, early top 10 sleeper for me.

Definately early, as Washington and Sanchez come back from injuries.

My only concern is what happens if Leon Washington is fully healthy and they really use him? dunno:

Something is up with Washington, they haven't truly used him for the past 3 seasons...you'd have thought that he'd already be a strong part of that offense by now. Instead they drafted Greene and release Jones...I don't have high hopes for Washington although he is really talented!

well, he got hurt early in the season last year . . . all reports preseason had them using washington more in a reggie bush type role . . . ;)

Been reading that some of the players were not happy about TJ being released - all players quoted appeared to be on the OL. Hope this doesn't come back to bite Buf. Greene is unproven and Washington... well I think grunt covered it well enough - he has been a player of false hopes so far and I am not one to think that will change next year just because his primary opposition is gone.
