Jets now have two angry backs

Washington is just PO'd because he sees his impact being reduced more than TJ's with Greene in the fold.

I would think he would get in and take advantage of TJ's absence and produce this year and then work at getting the increase he would then deserve.

TJ's time in NY seems to be reaching its end - will they trade him?

I can't see Greene impacting Washington much at all. They need to pay Washington, as he is a key piece, but his isn't the piece that Greene can affect.

I have to agree, Geene has a skillset much more matched to Thomas Jones.

Washington, the Jets' dynamic running back/kick returner, has a base salary of $535,000.

Jones is scheduled to make $900,000 in 2009, the third season of a four-year, $20 million contract he agreed to when he was acquired from the Bears in 2007. He made $13.1 million in the first two seasons of his contract.

The Jets have their Rbs on the cheap this year. While most contracts are backloaded Jones had a frontloaded one.

I'd be more interested in keeping Washington happy at this point than Jones!
Word!

Lets face facts here. Jones has miles on him, and he is at the end of his contract. My gut tells me NYJ won't resign him...as he wants way too much money for a 30+ year old Rb in the NFL. I quite honestly expect a trade sometime this year...to get something of value from him...if Greene pans out.

So would I, Jones could move on and be replaced by Geene next year if he has the stuff, of course.

While we can all agree that Washington should be paid more than $535,000 as he is a great 3rd down back and great return threat. He is really just a 3rd down back and I would think something along the line of $3 million bonus and a few years at 3 million would be great.

Problem is that Washington reportedly wants $6 million a year. That's a huge gap in my mind. Problem is there is always someone/team that wrecks the curve contract wise. Washinton probably looks at the Chargers putting a franchise tag on Sproles and thinks why not $6mill. at this point.

Where do you send him? Other than the Cleveland deal Ive not heard much.

Oh I haven't heard anything - I was just wondering if it becomes an issue by extending into the preseason do they cut their losses early and get something for him?

I would doubt they trade him within the division but Buffalo not having Lynch for the beginning of the season could use him and NE is a possibility in their rotation of potential starters.

I am not as high on him as most others are but Cle is always an option as you mentioned and Jax could use an established back up to J-Drew. Denver seems to be collecting RBs this year so what could 1 more hurt? Sea is another possibility if they don't think the Jones/Duckett combo is going to cut it

I could see it if Washington is not there and Greene impresses. Washington has the potential to be a key piece this year but I consider him more borderline of realizing that potential, especially if he is not participating.

I can agree with you that they hope Greene will be Jones eventual replacement but it is my opinion that TJ is still much better than Washington and will be negatively impacted less by a hold out in the short term.

I agree that NY will not pay to keep him after this season. As for the mileage he has only been sniffing around 300 carries for the last 4 seasons before that his work load was really rather light so although the age is valid I'm not sure thinking he is worn down is a given.

If not before the season begins I could only see the trade if Greene not only pans out but outright seizes the starting role (which I don't see) or they are out of the running early and another team needs to fill a role because of injury.

I say with Washington you try and negotiate less than $6M a year and you trade away TJ. You can then promise Washington more touches with TJ gone, and free cap room to pay Washington. Use a Greene/Washington set up in NY.

I like this line of thinking myself. While most don't consider Washington capable of being a full time back there is no reason that he can't handle a 50/50 workload from what I have seen. When he has had to carry the load he has done alright. Also seeing him on a first or second down might make him even more effective than just using him in a more predictable 3rd down only mode. I think Washington can handle a bigger portion of the pie just not too big. But then you can use the rookie Greene as a primary back light (50/50) and the less carries can help him get past the traditional rookie wall. If both Jones and Washington hold out Greene is going to get a lot of extra work and a bit of showcase time for himself. His talents, if he has enough will show up quickly if the other RBs are holding out.

Hmmmm...... Thunder and Lightning anybody?

Thomas Jones, RB, Seattle Seahawks. Might not be a bad idea, and they can trade the Jets Deion Branch :D

*sigh* you mean "kill their fantasy value" thunder and lightning? ;-)
RBBC's can hold good fantasy value. MJD has been in a RBBC since he came into the league and has been a top 15 RB every year. Jacobs and Ward made a nice RBBC last year and both ended up having value in fantasy terms. Same thing in Tennessee, I'd say Chris Johnson and Fatdale White did just fine as part of a thunder and lightening....Not to mention that one of the most valueable RB's in the league last year, DeAngelo Williams, saw Jon Stewart take significant carries away.

Many feel RBBC's are a death sentance for RB's, not really the case, you can still have a great RB come out of a RBBC.
