Jets New Big Dog In Town?

Cerberus

In Dog We Trust
Occurred to me last night that if NY can pull off the upset and beat Pittsburgh, They will have knocked off the big 3 in the AFC in consecutive weeks. Indy, NE, and Pittsburgh are the teams to beat in the AFC and have been for years now and to be the best you have to beat the best. They did take 2 out of 3 from NE this season. And they did beat Pittsburgh at Heinz field earlier this season. Not sure off hand about any Jets/Indy matchup this season. Don't think they played other than the playoff game. So that makes NY 4-1 against the best the AFC has to offer. So say they do get lucky and beat the Steelers, Are they the new top dog, king of the mountain in the AFC or do they have to do it again next year.

Interesting question. I say they have to maintain that level of play for a couple more years. Better build a larger kennell, 'cause the Ravens look to be joining that group soon as well

Well if they beat the Steelers today for the 2nd time.....how could you call it luck? IMO, that would prove they were indeed the better team. Not sure if they can pull it off, but I don't think I would call them lucky if they do. And it would mean they would have to be in the discussion of the top teams to beat for the next couple year at least.....but as fast as things change in the NFL, the consistency of excellence is what separates these teams from the rest and you need to continue to do it to be included in that class.....but for this year, they would have earned the title of the best in the AFC that is for sure!

For me, the Ravens are just a step below the 3 other teams mentioned (right there with the Jets actually if they don't win today) that need to break through a win a Conference title before being included in that next group. On the flip side, NE needs to start winning some playoff games again pretty soon or they are in danger of falling out of that elite group. They have not won a playoff game since January 2008 in the AFC Championship game against SD.

They do have the makings of a top dog. Very young and very good. Many of their vets are in their prime so success could last for many more seasons.

The Jets are all flash and media hype lead by their ring leader Rex. Maybe if they shut their mouth and focus on playing football they may come around and win the big game. Instead they talk trash and cause drama.

well, they lost, so praise to all that is holy for the end of that ridiculous run. I hate the Jets. granted, two straight AFC title games is damn impressive (both as a 6 seed, mind you!). but I can't stand this team. they'll probably get over the hump and win it next season. then again, I really don't think Mark Sanchez is good enough now or ever will be.

Aaron Rodgers is the next manning/brady/brees of this league. He's going to get to quite a few super bowls, while Big Ben should be right there with him for another 5-7 years. brady, manning, brees, maybe ryan/flacco will have something to say about it here and there, but its really up to Rodgers and Rufflesburger to make it happen.

after all, one of them gets the bling bling in 2 weeks, right?

Yes, most likely the Steelers.

The Jets need to upgrade that defensive line to have a shot. Go heavy on big boys in the draft, release Vernon Gholston, and Id honestly take a shot at a big back in the lower rounds.

The Steelers accomplishments under Ben rival what Brady has accomplished and the Steelers seem better poised for this run to continue!

Yet the Jets have won 4 playoff games in the last 2 years to 0 by the Pats.....Have a feeling the jets will keep letting the Pats have the div title if they can continue to win in the playoffs while the Pats go 1 and done.
