-- Greg Jennings to Get 3-Year, $27M Extension --
Tue Jun 23, 2009 --from FFMastermind.com
ESPN's John Clayton reports the Green Bay Packers are in the process of finalizing a three-year extension that will keep WR Greg Jennings with the team through 2012. According to a source, Jennings could make $27 million in new money with the deal, but if he performs at a Pro Bowl level, his new contract could be worth as much as $30 million. Jennings was in the last year of his rookie contract and was scheduled to make $535,000. Jennings will earn slightly in excess of $16 million in guarantees. The source also said that the structure of the contract is more front- than back-loaded. Though both sides have come to an agreement on the numbers, a couple things have to be worked out as far as the language of the contract. First, it must be approved by the NFL Management Council. Second, it has to be signed by both parties. The plan is to try to get the final draft ready in the next couple of days. Jennings is coming off an 80-catch, 1,292-yard season in which he caught nine touchdown passes and was a Pro Bowl alternate. He was a second-round choice of the Packers in 2006 and has developed into one of the top young receivers in the game.

Deserved. Now go out there and play like it.
huh??? deserved?? 2nd highest paid WR?? When did I miss this.....Jennings deserves to be the 2nd highest paid WR in the game???

Sorry, not deserved.....but not many contracts are these days. I will give due to the Pack to lock up a young gun, but I think this contract is a little high....

I think this kid is a freaking stud and one of the best in the league. His importance to this team is also of the highest.

Thats a lot of money, but Jennings has one of the brightest futures of any WR in the league.

man, you guys are crazy.....Jannings is good, don't get me wrong.....but I can name a nice handful of WR's I'd pay more than Jennings.....Fitz, AJ, Cal J, Moss, St Smith, Wayne, Boldin, Colston....

I see him talent wise right there with someone like Bowe in KC.....just goes to show how much one's situation can make you.

I agree with you Miller. Jennings is good, but he is no where close to being the second best WR in the league. I like the Packers move to lock him up for awhile, I just don't like the fact that he is the second highest paid WR.

We are in agreement on this one. Kind of a strange feeling..............

Decent numbers but not deserving of that kind of scratch. Crazy.............

I also think Jennings is deserving of a contract extension.
Dont worry Miller, all those WRs you mentioned will get payed soon i'm sure, let the negotiating begin. :xpopcorn:

And i also think that there is no athlete from any major sport on the face of the earth worthy of getting paid the big money that they do get.

Sorry Miller, but I'm with the other guys on this one. Totally deserving. IMO, Jennings may be the 2nd best reciever in the league, when you throw in their promise as well. He's younger than the best in the league and that gives him a lot more upside.

We've seen nothing but steady and good progress from Jennings. Last year was the first year he took over in GB as the #1 guy, and he had 80 Rec, 1292 yards, and 9 TDs.

Personally, I'd start Jennings over Steve Smith, Calvin Johnson and Colston (just using players in your list, Miller).

You would start Jennings over Calvin???

You know what, I probably would start Jennings over Calvin, and not be too worried about it either. This is why: I think Calvin and Jennings are of the same talent level.

With that said, starting Calvin over Jennings wouldn't bother me either. IMO, they're interchangeable.

Moss, Fitz, AJ, then

Jennings, Calvin, Steve Smith, Wayne, then ......

That's the way I have them, but i have mocked twice taking either Steve Smith or Wayne, when Jennings was available. Jennings will be the last of these guys chosen in most drafts, but that doesn't necessarily make him worse. Rodgers found him well last year, in his first season. I see no reason why he won't find him better in this one. Clavin is a huge man and talent. jennings makes me feel safer, probably due to the fact that he's on a much better team. I realize that teams playing from behind throw more. Their drives also end faster.

Calvin had more rec. yards and 3 more touchdowns than Jennings did last year. The only category Jennings beat him in was he had 2 more receptions than CJ did. Jennings even had a good QB throwing to him. If Stafford is able to come in and be effective, I look for CJ to have a much better season than Jennings.

While that's a fair assesment, bodey, and I knew that stat mind you, when I stated that I would start Jennings, I feel that Jennings just seems more comfortible of a choice. Not that Calvin isn't, by any means. I just feel more confident starting Jennings week to week.

I knew the stats too. I trust Jennings more, given his situation.
