Shoulder procedure forcing HC Haley to monitor RB's workIn his daily interview with the local media, HC Todd Haley spoke on his RB situation with Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones: "We want this guy (Charles) to be playing when the games count," said Haley. "He's coming off a pretty significant (surgery). ... We want him to be playing at a high level. ... We've got great competition. Both of those guys want to be pretty good." (kcchiefs.com)

FF Today's Take: Haley admitted he'd "be a fool" to not play Charles if he's severely outproducing Thomas Jones in terms of yards per carry, but at least we have some sense as to why Haley is continuing to list Jones atop the depth chart ahead of Charles. This is still a situation to monitor, but if the preseason is any indication, Haley would be a fool to give Jones a large number of snaps when he is averaging 3.1 YPC while Charles is averaging 7.0 YPC.

Krueger from FFT is KC resident and Chief Homer. He has projected Charles higher than most from day 1.

Charles is by far the better running back. Jones is fine for short pounding yards, but KC's O-line is not as good as NY's. Jones can't produce the numbers he did in New York.

When given the choice between these guys in my recent drafts.... I took Jones. If it was a ppr league I chose someone else all together.

KC doesn't instill much offensive hope especially if you're watching any of their painful (beautiful for Bucs fans!) preseason games. But reading the words from KC camp, Jones is showing off all his best moves. I'm 2/3 hopeful, 1/3 optimistic.

Not saying that Jamaal isn't a talented guy. He is. And KC loves him too. He's a fast little sucker. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles injured Friday? Sat Aug 28, 02:42 AM
Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (arm, shoulder) appeared to injure his arm or shoulder during the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 27, but the team did not comment on him after the game, reports The Associated Press. He finished the game with six carries for 40 yards and a 20-yard reception.

Charles came out with the team for the second half with pads still on. No wrap was visable on the elbow. Charles has averaged nearly 9 yards a touch this pre-season. Y'all go for Jones, I'm after Charles.

cbssports.com,
Jamaal Charles appeared to be fine after taking a big hit to his left elbow just before the end of the first half vs. the Eagles on Friday night. Charles was tagged following his only catch of the night and headed to the locker room early, but he came out with the team in the second half in his jersey and pads and his elbow appeared fine (no wrap) as he stood on the sideline smiling with teammates. He didn't play in the second half. It was actually a good night for Charles before the hit -- he made his first preseason start and had 40 yards on six carries including fluid runs of 5, 13 and 21 yards along with a 20-yard catch, which was the play the injury occurred on.

Analysis: Charles had been battling for the top spot on the depth chart this summer with Thomas Jones and seemingly took it down for this game. He looked much better than Jones here, and this should set the table for him to be the primary rusher for Kansas City this season. He'll still share the ball of course, but his speed and versatility are undeniable. So long as his elbow checks out OK, Charles is worth owning as a top-end No. 2 Fantasy RB worth a pick

rotoworld,
Jamaal Charles started Friday night's preseason game against the Eagles, and generated 60 total yards on seven touches.

He had six carries for 40 yards and a 20-yard catch. Charles disappointingly fumbled away the opening handoff, but rebounded with a string of explosive plays. On the preseason, he's now averaging 8.2 yards per touch compared to Thomas Jones' paltry 3.16. There is a gaping separation between the two in terms of productivity and talent. Players that start the third preseason game usually start in Week 1, and we expect that to be the case in Kansas City.
