(Rotoworld) Coach Jim Schwartz lauded rookie Jahvid Best Wednesday for his versatility, playmaking ability, and knowledge of the team's playbook. Analysis: "He has grasped everything we've thrown at him," said Schwartz. "We haven't spoon-fed him. We've used him as wide receiver, in the slot, at running back. He has been exposed to everything ... He's smart, multidimensional and he can make plays." Best had veteran teammates raving about his explosiveness after Wednesday's practice. He went off the board in the third round in Rotoworld's recent mock draft.

If he stays healthy, he will be great!

WOW third round! I got him in the late 5th round. Probably would of made it to the 6th. 3rd round is too early for a rookie on a horrible team, but I am hoping he is 3rd round caliber.

(RotoWire) Best's agent said in an e-mail to the Detroit Free Press that he and the Lions have not yet begun contract discussions. Analysis: The e-mail was a response to an inquiry as to if team president Tom Lewand's recent arrest for drunken driving will influence contract negotiations. It's not too surprising that the two sides have not yet gotten together regarding salary as there's a lot of dominos that have to fall in front of Best to determine how much the 30th overall pick will see in compensation. There's no major indication of a hold out at the moment from Best.

He wont hold out, and I dont call the Lions horrible anymore. Theyve moved up to at least terrible, with a possiblility of disappointing this year.

cbssports.com,
The Detroit News reports that the Lions are hoping rookie RB Jahvid Best can play like another former Detroit star rusher. The story says the Lions need some pep in their running game, and it looks like Best can provide it. The paper even compares Best to Barry Sanders by saying "not since Barry Sanders have the Lions possessed a back with Best's speed and open-field running style. Best is actually faster than Sanders, and has shown flashes of being a big-time playmaker."

Analysis: That's a lofty comparison for Best to be the next Sanders. But we're hopeful he can come close, and we like Best as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option if Kevin Smith (ACL) is limited or out to start the season. Keep an eye on what happens with Smith, but plan on drafting Best as early as Round 5 in standard leagues. In rookie-only drafts, Best is a first-round pick.

I don't see him being a true #1 RB in his career. I'm thinking Reggie Bush style players, but better. Not to happy to be seeing him, Stafford and Megatron lineup against my Bears for years to come.

DET - Lions optimistic about deal with RB Jahvid Best before camp

The Detroit Lions are optimistic that they will be able to agree on a contract with first-round draft choice RB Jahvid Best before the start of training camp, reports Tim Twentyman, of The Detroit News.

OUR VIEW

Best was so impressive in OTAs that we're not worried about him even if he does miss the beginning of training camp, although it sounds like he's not in danger of that happening.
