J Johnson is the new starting QB for the Bucs

From cbs sports,

Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris named Josh Johnson the team's starter for Week 4 at Washington. He'll replace Byron Leftwich, who failed to help the Bucs to a win through the first three weeks of the season, including a dismal performance in Week 3 vs. the Giants.

His first game is against the Skins which isn't the easiest draw in the world. Would anyone out there start him out of the gate?

Depends on who your other QB was. If you started Jason Campbell for example the last couple of weeks, I would start Josh Johnson over him... Maybe... That's tough now that I think about it. Only because the Buc's D sucks that bad...

Sounds like a team planning for the future, rather than win now....not a bad idea considering.

Leftwich booted to third string QB from cbs sports.

The Bucs named Josh Johnson their starting quarterback for Week 4 at Washington, and also named Josh Freeman their backup quarterback. Byron Leftwich has been demoted to third-string.

I'm not thinking of either as being bad. I just think the path to Freeman is being accelerated. Coach held out hope that his team would be competitive, and now that it is obvious that the team will not compete for the division or a playoff spot, might as well look to the future.

Leftwich was never anything more for the Bucs than a temporary fill in. Just turned out to be more temporary than planned.

I gotta say, gentleman, Johnson isn't as bad as you think.
I apologize in advance, but this Johnson is the second year guy....right? ....and Freeman the K State boy? I thought they made a hell of a grab 2 years ago when they goth that Johnson, and hope he shines this year, so he can catch on somewhere.

All I can say is, its about time. I can guarantee you're going to see better offensive production next week from the Bucs. And I wouldn't be scared to pick him up off the waiver wire at all.

Sounds to me (from a layman's perspective) that he is being set up for failure.

Dude was listed 4th on the depth chart all pre-season, saw virtually NO 1st team reps in training camp or the pre-season...in general, he has been treated like a step child.

Through all of this, the TB fan base has been SCREAMING for Josh to get a chance and I'm sure this has become a major annoyance to the organization (who clearly have Freeman plugged in to their future plans).

The best way to get Johnson off the minds of the fans is to make him the starter of a dreadful NFL team with players he's almost NEVER played a down with and let the failures of the organization rest on his shoulders until the fans again become sick of losing and place the blame on this poor guy who never got a sporting chance.

Josh get's booed off the field, Leftwich returns to finish the dismal season out and Freeman is the "Fan's Choice" next year.

Why aren't they putting Freeman in? Freeman saw more time during the pre-season and is listed as #2 on the depth chart.

Looks like pretty basic politics to me.

In a word, Freeman is not pro ready. He is a classic case of a young guy who needs to see the game and learn it before he is put behind the wheel. This IS a good move for Tampa. In most reports I have read, and from the locals here....Johnson has potential...but most important he is mobile and can save his life unlike Leftwich. Put a young kid NOT used to a pro style like Freeman in behind this line...and team with the lack of Wr talent (due to injuries) and you just wasted that pick

Is this really a bad offensive line? Granted, I haven't watched them closely during the first three games, but the talking heads I listen to before and during the season seemed to comment on the offensive line being one of the few bright points of this team.

It can't be that bad with the way they can run. I think what is killing this team is the fact its best WRs are hurt, Leftwich holds the ball too damn long...and then is a sitting duck. Go to a mobile Qb...who can run or make room for himself while the wrs try to free up...and they just might do okay.

But the defense isn't what it was ....not even close. For that matter the def. has some major inj. issues as well.

Our O-line is likely the best we've ever had. They're really good, actually. What we've seen over the last couple of games though, is crappier and crappier play calling. Possibly the firing of OC Jeff Jagodzinski, but we have continued to abandon the run more and more. It's quite aggravating to watch.

Our defense is piss poor at best. Ryan and I have been calling this all offseason long, that the worst part of our team is going to be the defense. Josh Johnson gives our team a better chance of winning because he's the most mobile of our QBs and he has the best arm of our QBs (in the sense that not only can he throw on a rope, very accurately, but he has the best touch on the ball, the best reads in the opposing defense, and the quickest release on the roster).
