Take a look at the numbers through 11 seasons...

  • 800 career receptions for almost 10,000 yards
  • Currently 22nd all time in receptions and will be top 10 with another 100 catches
  • Already 34th all time in receiving yards and should finish in the top 10-15
  • 72 career TD receptions
  • Currently ranked 28th all time, but only 7 away from top 20 and 16 away from top 10
  • 71st all time in yards from scrimmage - 3 yards behind Earl Campbell
  • Career 9-4 record in playoffs with 70+ catches, 1000+ yards, and 8 TDs
  • Four time Pro Bowler
  • Pro Bowl MVP
  • Super Bowl MVP

At age 31, this player is likely looking at another 4-6 years before heading off to the sunny beaches of retirement. That should likely leave them among the top 10 in catches, receptions, and TD receptions all time barring any major injuries or early retirement.

So what do you think. Is this player a future Hall of Famer? What say you?

Sounds like Hines Ward and I'll say yes. Maybe not first ballot but he'll get in there based on Super Bowls, SB MVP, and other accolades. He doesn't have the sexiest numbers, but will be remembered for his all around skills and effort.

Great downfield blocker also. Doesn't add to his stats, but his team mates sure do appreciate this aspect.

yes, fantastic blocker, one of the best in the game as a receiver. just didnt want to add that above to totally give away who we are talking about. :)

The numbers still need work IMO.....if it was just about the numbers, but for me it's not. As much as I dislike this guy, he's one you'd love if he was on your team. He's the best blocking WR ever, and add that to the good numbers, the SB and the SB MVP and yep, he'd get my vote.....can't believe I actually said that....

If he was voted on nameless he'd be a shoe-in.

You do know the NFL hates the Steelers, don't you? (look at the officiating this last game) They will wait a considerable time to vote him in after learning his name. Remember, they like to fine him for the way he plays (just for fun).

Just my subjective opinion, but I didn't start this thread...

so far unanimous, but its interesting. you hear hines ward, and you dont think HOFer. but he sure looks like it.

By the time he hangs it up the numbers alone should be enough to get him in.

I love watching this guy play, just not against the Browns.

Hall for Hines? I'd leave this question to Lynn and John.

If I had a vote. Sure.

I would say he is a HOFer. The intangibles to me, the blocking and such, is what puts him over though.

OH? You don't think Santonio Holmes caught that ball and had control for two seconds (or two steps) although he was using his left hand to propel himself while he CLEARLY had possession of the ball in his right? I guess, no I KNOW I don't know the rules but I do know what I saw. He had the ball and even if he threw it across the goal=line and recovered it, it's a fumble recovery.

ALSO, I WAS AT THE FIRST SAN DIEGO GAME WHERE THE REFS TOOK THE WILLIE PARKER TOUCHDOWN AWAY FOR HOLDING, THEN THE PALUMALU TOUCHDOWN AWAY BECAUSE IT WAS "an illegal forward pass".

Don't talk to me about the officials.

It did screw the Stillers. They were just team enough to overcome it. In a fair game the score would have been more. That's just sheer observation, not bias.

Of course I am biased since I am going to the Super Bowl, but that's notwithstanding of the awful part-time offenders of the game, the striped stealers.

...an "illegal forward pass". Come on Beermutts! If that happened to your team what would you be saying?

you forgot to agree with me on the eminent rule change.

in that situation, time was worth more than six, imo
