Is It Over For Jamal Lewis?

"Mary Kay Cabot, of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports NFL sources began rumbling a few days ago that the Cleveland Browns could release RB Jamal Lewis Saturday, Sept. 5, when they cut their roster down. The Browns gave him a $3.5 million roster bonus in March and do not have much proven depth behind him. Lewis averaged 2.6 yards per carry on 24 rushing attempts during the preseason."

I can't see them just throwing him away but his skills have clearly diminished this year.

Thoughts?

James Davis has looked very good this offseason and they may be inclined to let the young kid show what he can do. This is a pretty risky move IMO due to the depth is not there, but Davis IMO is the best back currently on their roster and regardless of if they cut Lewis or not will be starting by mid-season.

I knew James Davis woukd be starting by midseason. But I didn't think they would just release Lewis.

While this is very possible, it sounds to me more like a reporter that has been listening to the same opinions that most of us have been hearing, and now putting this out as a "rumor" and citing "unnamed sources" in hopes that it sticks and becomes reality.

Yeah, that ranks right up there as one of the most dishonest tactics any profession has ever come up with.

This news of J.Lewis being on the bubble has been going on for a week or so.

When the cut happens then i will be a believer.

Not to get off topic, but bloggers would have nothing to write about if there weren't real reporters doing real work.

There are plenty of bloggers, usually the cream of the crop, who develop and maintain their own sources. You also have blogs, like Smart Football, where people with real knowledge decide to share it with the masses.

This just in:

News: Browns rookie RB James Davis sustained an unspecified head injury in a minor one-car accident and was briefly hospitalized Saturday.

Shouldn't affect your fantasy line-up and it looks like he'll be okay.

Just wanted everyone to know.
