Heyward-Bey has a case of the dropsies

Though DHB continues to work with the 1st team offense, he apparently had 3 drops in a row at practice.

Hope this doesnt become an issue for the sake of the Raiders. I think its more a case of the young man having to adjust to catching passes from real QBs.

Some perspective would be nice. 3 drops out of 30? Out of 6?

His scouting report includes small (9 inch?) hands, so even when he gets used to those rockets he's liable to not hang on to them all. He's a strong character kid willing to work hard so I wouldn't hit the Troy Williamson panic button just yet.

Oh no, a rookie dropped some passes? Hit the panic button. Luckily for Jerry Rice, wen he did it they kept giving him chances.

3 in a row is enough to raise an eyebrow but I agree with the other posts that it is a little early for this to be a concern. What caught my eye was the reference to Oakland having real QBs.

Like the "story" said, Im sure anything wrong with him will be magnified.

For your secondary question, in comparision, the QBs at Oakland are far superior to the QBs throwing to him at Maryland.

This better be just a case of nervousness, being the 7th pick overall and knowing he needs to step up immediately and Al Davis swinging his cane during practices :grandpa: from the side lines is bound to make anyone a little nervous.

Give the kid a break for now.

Is that even a backhanded compliment to Russell?

Via an e-mail update from "Fanball" that J.Russell has looked terrible thus far in mini-camp. If this crap continues, dont be surprised to see J.Garcia starting sooner than expected. At least Garcia will give them some solid starts. I had read that Kiffen wanted to draft B.Quinn and not Russell, must be another lame pick from big Al. :xpissed:

So Heyward-Bey might not be the only concern.

I read several local reports about Jamarcus looking bad and some national reports that said he looked good. You have to realize with the Raiders there are several papers that report on them instead of one or two. You can expect them to be saying anything at this time of year just to be saying something.

With DHBs bust potential, Chaz Shillens makes for an interesting dynasty target at a very affordable price

While most teams are pretty stable at WR #1 and WR #2 the whole Raider WR corp at this point has dynasty potential. Opportunity is wide open for WRs on the Raider roster and that is a key element. Most teams just have a battle for a #3 WR so if your dynasty roster has the space taking a shot at Raider WRs might be prudent fishing at this point.

The Local papers out there played up the 3 drops like it was the end of the world each trying to sound more important than the other in bringing you this dramatic news. Those drops were early sat. practice no defenders, quick rush to the presses and dispense this news, we have a deadline, this is important. So DHB dropped 3 passes on Sat. morning does that mean he dropped none on Friday?

How about a little perspective as Orgazmo said earlier in this thread.

Late Saturday and early Sun. I saw some ESPN coverage DHB and those drops wasn't mentioned.

Lets look at a little national coverage on DHB after a full day of Friday and Sat. practice and some 7 on 7 drills.

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Darrius Heyward-Bey ran an inside route against Nnamdi Asomugha only to see the pass from JaMarcus Russell broken up by the Raiders' All-Pro cornerback.

"I came back and I just went, 'All right. I'm not in college any more,' " Heyward-Bey said.

Heyward-Bey began his indoctrination into the NFL on Friday at the first day of Oakland's mandatory minicamp, showing signs of the big-play ability that attracted the Raiders, and the inexperience he has to overcome after leaving college a year early.

Take that play against Asomugha. Heyward-Bey tipped off the route with his eyes, a mistake that might not have been an issue against college cornerbacks but is a big mistake against the more experienced competition in the NFL.

"There's some easy giveaways right now. I'll talk to him about that stuff," Asomugha said. "I saw his eyes. He can't give it away with his eyes, but this was his first practice. I wasn't watching him so I don't know how well he did. But he has speed and speed is always a threat."

Sounds like Osi has developed a nice rapport with DHB and will bring him up to speed fast. That is noteworthy as Osi is maybe the best and getting advice from him is about as good as it gets.

Sometimes too many reporters from too many locals papers try and make too much out of one morning practice session.

Spot on Coach. I read the ESPN article too, and like you said, who better to learn how to play from than the guy NO ONE can get a catch on.

I feel sorry for this guy if he doesnt pan out and Crab across the bay does he will never live it down

Al Davis is the one who won't live it down. I dunno... I feel strangely okay with DHB and a bit distrusting of Crabtree. TT's offense has given several other receivers great numbers and they find themselves as UDFAs.
