Beat writer Matt Maiocco lists Kendall Hunter ahead of Anthony Dixon on his post-draft depth chart. Hunter is smallish at 5'7/199, but excels in pass protection and as a receiver out of the backfield. If Frank Gore were to go down, he'd likely share early-down work with Dixon and take over all the third-down duties. Hunter has more raw talent than Dixon.
An early assessment which bears watching as the season gets closer. If any of this turns out true having Gore's backup might not turn out to be much of an asset. I only like using a roster spot to backup a RB if I think that backup will put up good numbers.
