rotoworld,

Hakeem Nicks (wrist, toe) is expected to return to the practice field within the next two weeks.

Nicks is sitting out this weekend's OTAs, but the injury is not a major concern. The breakout candidate should be fine for June's minicamp as he asserts himself as the starting split end.

rotoworld,

Hakeem Nicks (toe, wrist) is taking part in individual drills during Giants Organized Team Activities.

Nicks didn't have his toe surgery until April, so it's not surprising that he's unavailable for 11-on-11s. His wrist should be fully healed by now. Mario Manningham (shoulder), though, is on the practice field. Nicks may need to get back quickly to permanently secure New York's starting split end job.

Hakeem Nicks (toe surgery) worked in team drills on Thursday as he nears 100 percent.

Nicks admitted that he's not quite there yet with his toe, but it sounds like he's very close. We don't expect this to be an issue for the high-upside receiver once training camp rolls around.

Can't wait to see what this guy does this year. I think Nicks has a ton of talent and can be a very nice deep threat.

rotoworld,
Hakeem Nicks (toe surgery) deemed himself "100 percent" after participating in a full practice Tuesday morning.

"There were no limitations," said Nicks. While he'll be limited to one practice per day, it certainly seems like Nicks is on track to be ready for full contact in training camp.

Giants WR Steve Smith believes that Hakeem Nicks will be the team's breakout receiver this year.

"Hakeem Nicks," Smith replied when asked which wideout would explode onto the scene. "He showed me a lot of ability last year, just raw talent. If he works on some of the little things, the sky is the limit." Nicks is the Giants' most gifted receiver and a threat to overtake Smith's yardage lead this year.

cbssports.com,
The Newark Star-Ledger reports that Giants WR Hakeem Nicks, who caught 47 passes for 790 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie last year, should be ready for the start of training camp. Nicks revealed in April that he played the season on a broken toe, which required offseason surgery to repair. The toe will be healed in time for the start of camp.

Analysis: Nicks has the chance to build on his impressive rookie season, and he enters 2010 with the chance to start ahead of third-year WR Mario Manningham. Along with Steve Smith, all three receivers for the Giants will see plenty of playing time, and we like Nicks as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy option this year. He's worth a mid-round pick in all leagues.

It's a good news day for Hakeem.

rotoworld,
ESPN New York confirms that Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks will compete for the Giants' starting split end job in training camp.

This will be one of the top-five or so camp battles to watch for fantasy. Manningham held off Nicks for most of last season, but it wasn't deserved. Mario tied for the league lead in drops, and Nicks was superior as a blocker, after-catch threat, and in yards per reception. Lacking physicality in his game, Manningham's best fit is as a situational deep threat off the bench.

NYG - WR Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham to compete for starting job

New York Giants WRs Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham will compete for the starting wide receiver job opposite WR Steve E. Smith during training camp, reports Ohm Youngmisuk, of ESPNNewYork.com.

OUR VIEW

Manningham tied for the league lead in drops last year and could be best served as only a deep threat for the Giants. Nicks looked great last season - with a broken toe. We feel he's got the potential to be an elite level receiver in the near future because of his athleticism, hands, and run after the catch ability.
