Not sure if this is a good fit for Cincy as time will tell but getting a young fresh young mind with fresh ideas in there might just be what is needed to turn the Bengals around.

As a Bengals fan you have to like the hire. It's a fresh approach and someone that should bring in an attacking style. With his background I would expect to see the creativity that has been lacking in Cincinnati for quite some time. I have to say, I am optimistic about this move.

Well considering youve spent ten years with your junk in the pickle slicer, slammin it into the glory hole is a step up.

Hopefully the move up to big people football after years in the arena league will work out.

While I like the new direction, I wonder if Cincy isn't more screwed.

First, Gruden wants to run a WC type offense. Palmer is not a WC Qb, and the O-line is not a small mobile line for down field blocking. Add to that the ? at Rb, and only ONE Wr signed through next year.

OH, and secondly, if you totally revamp the offense...when are you going to learn it? OTAs may be gone this year due to CBA issues. We could literally see a CBA in August, and season starting in Sept. 3 weeks to start a whole new offense is scary.

I just hope this means they use the resources better. I like Greshem, Scott, Shipley and Simpson more and more with this move.

A west coast attack wont work in that division unless youve got elite talent across the offensive line. The Steelers and Ravens would crush a small offensive line.

Really....can it get worse then what Brat has done the last few seasons??? Not like they have been a top 10 offense, or even a top 15 offense for that matter in the recent past.

Why do you say that Palmer is not a WC QB? B/c he hasn't worked one in the past? I think he is capable of running this type of offense under the right person. WR's are in transition, but they have some youth to build on and the WR's they do have may be a nice fit in that type of offense. Scott also may be a decent fit in an offense like this. I do not think Benson will return if they are going to a WC type offense. As far as the line goes....doesn't Philly run a WC offense?
315-358-320-321-340 - That is the size of their line, where is small and mobile in that picture? They seem to do OK.

By contrast, here is Cincy's OL last year:
316-345-320-332-335 - very similar in size to Philly.

This is a great point! But not something that some other teams won't be dealing with as well. This has to be a long term move, not something done simply due to the labor situation. May be rough at the start; but long term you HAD to go into a new direction.
I just hope this means they use the resources better.
Me too, but this is Cincinnati......not holding my breath.

Som of what I alluded to above, they have some players in Cincy and this may take advantage of this talent better.

It requires a Qb that has patience, mobility and the ability to be accurate and hit guys in stride. None of these can be applied to Palmer. Not now. His biggest issue the last two years is his inability to hit guys in stride and not throw behind or too high.

I LOVE Shipley in a WC, as he would be the possession Wr. Greshem as well, could be huge. Scott if given the chance too would thrive in this type of offense. Yes, Philly runs this type of offense, but they draft O-line that is more mobile and can get down field and hit blocks. Cincy's was drafted to bull D-lines for a power running game. Totally different style.

Don't think I agree with ya totally here. Basically there are only 2 Offensive strategies, Run to set up the Pass and vice versa. Both involve the 1st 2/3 secounds after the snap. Invloving the WR's more in that initial time closer to the line of scrimmage spreads out a D some more allowing a more productive running game when called upon. As to how well it would be able to function in that division, lets wait 2 days before making that call

So what next in Cincy? The hire Jon Gruden to be HC now if/when they toss out Lewis? Hire one Gruden to get the other?

I don't think there is a snow ball's chance in hell that Jon Gruden would ever work for Mike Brown.
