With the NFL playoffs set to begin this weekend, commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to the league's fans, assuring them that the owners and players will be able to come to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement.
"I know we can and will reach an agreement," Goodell wrote. "My goal as commissioner now is to help our teams and players find a solution that is fair to everyone and ensures that football becomes more popular, accessible, and fun. We want the next decade to be the best yet for our fans, and I'm ready to work day and night to make that happen."

I think eventually it will happen, but am not convinced it will be this year yet.

Smart move by Goodell. I really have no idea of his intentions with this statement, but the move could be considered shrewd in the eyes of those who it was addressed too.

If Ownership pushes the 2 extra games, they deserve the fallout of a player strike. i wish the players were better prepared for it. If there is one thing this season showed us, we don't need two more games. What will that do outside of injury concerns......mayb give us a 7-11 divisional champion???

I seem to remember when preseason was 6 games long, unless my brain has failed me. When it was cut to 4 it still didn't solve all the issues of preseason is too long. Perhaps the NFL teams need to be more sure to get their handcuffs for their studs. Isn't roster expansion on the table? 2 preseason games and 18 for real seems doable to me. Now let's come to terms and keep this show going.

This will be the crux and I agree.

First - they have to have a rookie pay scale....and stop the rediculous crippling rookie contracts.
Second - for the first to happen, the NFL will have to address retirement benefits and such for those past players
Third -need to eliminate two games from Pre-season, but that will cost owners, so they will want a longer regular season.
To do that they need to extend rosters to cover for more injuries and more player protection.
Fourth....they have to get into blood testing for drug testing to find hGh and other growth hormones.

Lots to do, not much time to fix it.
