"Its An Outrage"
Mr. Raider George Blanda who retired at the age of 48yrs has passed away

RIP George You were and always will be a Raider favorite

I remember him kicking field goals then coming in and playing QB and throwing TD's and kicking the conversion far into his 40's

Its a sad day for the Raider Nation

He was one of the greats of the game -- for several generations. I can't imagine playing football at age 48 at the level he played. He was amazing.

I was actually very surprised about this news. I honestly thought Blanda died about 20 years ago.:eek

Tears here

I still have his poster he autographed for me on a wall here at home. As some of you know I am a great fan of Kickers and somewhat of a Raider historian. George would have been the same age as my dad and the two got to talk to each other a few times in Oakland. He was my hero (my Dad too:grin:). Lamonica would go down and George would step in like Rollie Fingers would for Catfish and save the game. I'll never forget the duals he had with Jan Stenerud as the two toes were as rival as rivals could be. It would be 38-36 KC, then two minutes later 39-38 Oakland and so on. George was the the reason for the Miami Dolphins broken win streak of 17 games. 4 field goals were all the Raiders did that 4th or 5th week of '73 to snap it. George Blanda gave the game class and made his owner look respectable in those days. I'll surely miss him.
