Flex drafting

So thankfully I read the league rules for a draft that's happening in a couple hours... There's a flex spot this year for some reason. My guess is this just extends skill position drafting a little longer and isn't too much to worry about. But it is live and done on paper so... I am a little concerned that this may blow up my strategy. Basically I'm just asking if the extra spot really changes what you do in the draft? And I assume it just means you grab an extra runner that you know is playing right off the bat

I am use to drafts with flex positions and have done above average starting 3 rb's almost every week. You do have an advantage if you have 3 stud rb's . This year the league I am in with flex is adding the possibility of having a TE in the flex spot this year(was just rb/wr in the flex the seasons before). This will not change my strategy becasue chances are slim you will have a second TE that would be worthy of a flex spot over a wr or rb
I actually drafted in sofflII as if there was a flex because i don't follow directions well and drafted Foster,McMurray, and AP in my first three picks which would have been a good start if there was a flex but now will have to use one as trade bait when their stock is high
This is not to say that this is the right way or whatever but has worked well for me in redraft leagues with flex.

Starting backs are basically assured more touches than starting wr's, but this day and age of rbbc, and stud TE's changes things some, as one could argue going many different directions, and the draft just might warrant you changing directions more than twice.

I love the flex spot in my $$ league. Last year I manned it with Victor Cruz for most of the year and Reggie Bush most of the other weeks while starting Megatron and Jennings plus Foster and Turner. I did slightly better with a WR at my flex though not many fantasy teams have three top ten WR's to play with.

Flex and ppr are the most enjoyable drafts and leagues in my opinion. They better match what we're dealing with as Fantasy GM's and Coaches.

If you are PPR it opens a window for players you may have not considered otherwise. The "hands" back in an RBBC can be pretty productive as can the possession receivers. I certainly wouldn't rule out a TE either if some good ones are falling to you.
