The Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys RB Felix Jones will have an MRI on his knee Monday after straining it in the third quarter Week 3 vs. Carolina, but ESPN reports that Jones is expected to miss three weeks (two games) with the injury. Jones rushed for 94 yards on eight carries and caught one pass for 20 yards in the game.

Grabbing Tashard Choice seems the smartest move an owner could make right now. Even if Barber returns next week Choice should make a great flex option.

Any time mentioned right now is nothing more than speculation.

It is a PCL, and all depends on how quickly he can recover.

My guess is that he will be healthy enough to play this weekend, but Barber should be back, and with a healthy Barber and Choice, no reason to not let this fully recover. Absolutely no reason to rush things. (hence the two week speculation).

I hope Felix Jones doesn't miss too much time, i need him for RB depth in several leagues.

Mike - I have to ask you, as a lifelong fan of all Dallas RBs named 'Jones' how do you explain Felix's lack of carries for his career thus far. Isn't he averaging close to 9 yards a carry?

At a certain point don't you have to let him become more involved in the offense? Granted, he's hurt right now but I don't get why Barber dominated the carries early in the year to the extent he did.

nfl.com's espn report,

Cowboys RB Felix Jones will miss Week 4 at Denver with a sprained PCL, reports ESPN. Head coach Wade Phillips said Tuesday that there is not a timetable for his return, but the report stats Jones might miss Week 5 as well so that he'll have three weeks of rest heading into Week 7 (the Cowboys have a bye in Week 6). Phillips did say Tuesday that RB Marion Barber is getting better but wouldn't commit to him playing against the Broncos.

From cbssports.com,

Dallas RB Felix Jones has been ruled out of the team's Week 4 game with a sprained posterior cruciate ligament. Marion Barber is expected to be active Week 4 and get the start.

If MBIII is not 100% healthy that only leaves T.Choice as the primary RB and could be long day at "Mile High" for Romo and company.

I hate to say it but i can see the Bronco's getting away with a win come Sunday. :thud:

I responded to this a few days ago, must have forgot to hit submit.

Basically, it boils down to a couple things. First, Barber is the starter, so Felix Jones will have to work to take playing time away from him, or Barber will have to slow down as the season progresses. Probably see a mix of the two.

Second, For as well as Felix Jones runs the ball, he lacks in pass protection. This is something that will improve with playing time. It won't have to improve a whole lot because Barber isn't exactly great at it. Pass protection was a big loss when Julius Jones left the team at this position.

In some cases you expect a running back to come into the league with the ability to pass protect pretty well. In the case of Felix Jones, you couldn't expect this, because it wasn't a priority at Arkansas.

How many games has he played in? How many of those did he get hurt in? I bet he has missed twice as many games as he's played in in his short career.

Considering he missed a big portion of his rookie season, yes, he has missed more than he has played. Don't really see that as an issue though. It's not like Barber is showing himself to be a picture of health since becoming a starter.

To be honest, I am a little concerned about the field right now. Very quickly, two players (barber and jones) have come up lame. Wondering if the newness of the field might be causing an issue.

Sorry about that. I wasn't directing that as a comparison to Barber. I was trying to answer why so few carries, and I felt it was because of the carries to injury ratio thus far.

ah, makes sense. The time missed to injury definitely plays into this. Can't learn when you aren't on the field.
