From rotoworld,

The Jets have been "making a heavy pitch" for free agent Jason Taylor and he will visit the team today, according to Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald.

Darlington says the Jets have been going after Taylor for several weeks, but the veteran is just finally accepting it as a possibility now. Taylor is the best pass rusher left on the open market even though he'll be 36 next season he would improve an already nasty Jets' 3-4 defense. The Jets only got 10 combined sacks from their outside linebackers last season. Apr. 7 - 9:41 am et

From rotoworld,

The Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Jets are fully expected to sign free agent Jason Taylor during his Wednesday visit.

"I’d be completely shocked if he left without signing," one source said. "Rex (Ryan) likes those tall, lanky, off-the-edge kind of guys that can wreak havoc." The move would likely threaten Bryan Thomas' spot on the depth chart, and obviously move down Vernon Gholston. Taylor wanted to return to the Dolphins, but GM Jeff Ireland's team is moving on without him. Apr. 7 - 12:35 pm et

Best case scenario here is they sign Taylor for 1-year, he performs well, and most importantly mentors Gholston into being something resembling a league-average OLB.

Looks like the Jets are positioning themselves for a take-over in the AFC East and a serious shot at the Super Bowl.

They kind of appeared out of nowhere last year and have made some tremendous off-season moves.

I'm anxious to see them topple NE and bring an end to Belichick's dynasty. I never did like cheaters.

I don't normally support teams from NY but the team the Jets are building and the way they are doing it is appealing to me.

Hoping to see the Phins by-pass the Brady bunch also but I'm not quite so optimistic about that happening.

New York lacks a playmaker at the WR spot. That will be the biggest hinderance to their ascention. Hell even Baltimore FINALLY went out and got a WR.

Though it's a glaring weakness on paper, Sarge, it becomes a moot point if your running game can't be stopped and you can't be scored on.

I will give you it did get Baltimore one Super Bowl.... But to me in the AFC playoffs, the difference maker will be a WR for the Jets, so long as they have to go through the Colts.

Like Sgt indicated - that may be enough to post a nice regular season record but not enough to bring them to the promise land in the 2nd season.

From rotoworld,

Free agent Jason Taylor is expected to take the rest of the week to decide whether to sign with the Jets.

ESPN's Tim Graham, a former Dolphins beat writer, hears Taylor and his wife will stay in New York for the night. ESPN's Chris Mortensen adds that Taylor is currently having dinner with Jets coach Rex Ryan and GM Mike Tannenbaum. The Fins are unable to offer much money, but Taylor doesn't have many other suitors. A deal with New York seems likely, but when it'll happen is uncertain. Apr. 7 - 7:50 pm et

On Jason Smith ESPN radio show last night were talking about J.Taylor has insulted the Jets fans, the Team etc........

How will the fans except him, with open arms, with hatred and :nutkick: fans aren't so soon to forget

I also heard that the Patriots are interested as well

I didn't know about that Derringer. It would prove interesting if they sign him. My bet is if he plays well all will soon be forgotten.

My understanding was he has been very vocal about NYJ fans while with other teams (Mia). I do not think it is a recent insult that was being discussed. If he plays well for them my guess is mud is right - all will be quickly forgotten.

I also heard the NE angle - many in NY apparently think he is just using the Jets to entice NE to take action in getting him to sign there.

The New York Post, reports unrestricted free-agent DE Jason Taylor (Dolphins) has left his visit with the New York Jets without a contract agreement.

Does the extended visit mean anything in y'alls minds?

Taylor stayed two days and had dinner with the GM and Rex Ryan. The same thing happened when LT came to town. From what I am reading now apparently having dinner with Rex Ryan is quite the inducement. It is expected that Taylor goes back and signs with the Jets next week. It sounds like they have agreed on almost everything so far. The only thing up in the air now is how many OTAs Taylor gets to skip.
