Earl Thomas

Safety - Texas
  • Height - 5-10
  • Weight - 197
  • Projected 40 Time - 4.41
2009 Stats:
  • 63 Solo Tackles
  • 8 Interceptions
Draft Projection - 1st rounder

NFL Impact: Thomas left school two years early and still appears NFL ready. He has a gift for making the big play and scored several times on interception returns. Thomas is fast, closes space quickly, has fast movement, and a very high ceiling for development. The exciting thing for the drafting GM will be how much more he can develop leaving school so early. Though Thomas is a tad small and reacts to the run a bit slowly, these are very easily coached issues for a competent defensive leader.

Thomas should go in the 1st round and make impact his first year. I look for him to emerge as a potential probowler in his second year, be it 2011 or 2012.

He might be my obligatory annual draft prospect man-crush for 2010. Probably the only player the Steelers realistically will have a shot at in the 1st round that I would be pleased with them selecting over an O-Lineman.

He's a nice value compared to Berry or Mays. Certainly the more complete safety of the three.
