Earl Bennett: A Dangerous Weapon?

ESPN Chicago seems to think that's exactly what he'll be playing under OC Mike Tice's system. What about it OUtlaws? Has the time for Bennett arrived? Anyone here willing to predict he'll explode on the scene this season? Count me out.

he can only benefit from having other receivers around him, and his rapport with cutler has always been good... im not sure if routes get broken or time gets short he doesnt just put it up for marshall though

I thought last year he'd do much better than he did and was mostly disappointed by the results. Who knows, maybe it happens in 2012.

didnt help that 6 games were ruined by hanie mccown and at least 4 early by martz, so you had 6 decent offensive games... one of which martz was forced to run 50 times on the panthers

I'd love it for Da Bears fans, Marshall on one side and a new & improved Bennett on the other. Cutler could be resurrected.

Lol, I grabbed Earl Bennett in a couple of Leagues, Johnny Knox in a couple of others, everybody thought I was nuts!!

Turns out they were right!

as far as fantasy you maybe could stash him as be week filler or (gulp) a number 3, but, i wouldn't

wouldn't doubt it when he returned from injury last november it seemed Cutler knew where he was gonna be at all times, and was probably the only guy he could count on to be somewhere and make the catch, even on broken plays in the awesome martz offense. his numbers in 4 games were 15 rec 256 yds and a TD... not necessarily setting the world on fire, right? However of these 4 november games, 1 was with hanie under center, and another was the stomping of the lions where cutler needed to complete only 9 passes all day. So really 2 games, neither of which had cutler get to 300 yards. Many of these were 2nd/3rd and long completions and he and cutler were just beginning to get re acquainted. Couple that with the totally anemic redzone scheming by martz and there weren't a whole lot of redzone opportunities. In what amounts to a two game total, it sounds a lot better... So it definitely is POSSIBLE... but it remains to be seen what the bears are going to try to do on offense and subsequently how defenses will try to stop it. It looks like the Bears are finally wanting to see what they traded for, and trying to build schemes and a team that fit cutler's skill set; not the worst idea in the world when he's your franchise player and really your only shot for years to come. They are committed to giving Cutler every opportunity, and I would take that as a slight edge for a decent Earl bennett year.

except that they never, for whatever reason, tried to help build a cutler friendly schematic or personnel group until this year

Same talk different year.....
This was my thought. Last month it was Hester playing a bigger role. Every year we hear how these Chicago receivers are going to break out, I just don't buy it. Outside of Marshall, the rest are simply depth WR's on your fantasy team that you play in desperation.

i can definitely dig that from a fantasy standpoint, just wouldnt be too surprised if someone emerged as a number two that could have some fantasy value as a #3-4

Assuming Cutler is Cutler, the ONLY wr getting any love in Chitown will be Marshall. That is how cutler rolls.
