With just hours before the NFL trading deadline, the Philadelphia Eagles are making star cornerback Asante Samuel available in a trade, NFL.com reported Tuesday.

The Eagles also reportedly made Samuel available in the preseason, when it was trying to clear salary cap room to sign quarterback Michael Vick to a long-term extension.

One of the NFL's top cover cornerbacks, Samuel is due nearly $19 million over the final two years of his current deal. The Eagles signed free agent Nnamdi Asomugha - one of the few cornerbacks better than Samuel - during the offseason and traded for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Samuel is in his fourth season with the Eagles and ninth in the NFL. He has 43 career interceptions, including 21 with Philadelphia

He's due 19 million over the next two years. Can anybody really afford that and losing draft picks? Philly would have to agree to compensate some of that to get anybody interested i think.

Can't trade him now, and they tried to trade him at the beginning of the season as well, and go little to no play. My guess is its a combination of price Eagles want plus contract Samuel will want.

He'll have to take a cut to be able to be traded or Philly pays most of whats due to him. Don't see either happening. Suprised havent heard anything about Oakland trying to get him. They like to over pay and throw away draft picks for players. LOL
