Eagles Interested In FA RB Warrick Dunn?

USA Today reports Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid would not rule out adding a veteran running back such as free-agent RB Warrick Dunn (Buccaneers), even though Reid is not concerned over RB Brian Westbrook's (ankle) cleanup ankle surgery.

Would be a decent move. Dunn would be a good stop gap while the rookie learns the game. Not sure how much Dunn has left...but a one year contract wouldn't be terrible.

No it's not a bad idea at all. Keeps the other backs a little fresher through training camp and pre-season.

Dunn is a good runner, not spectacular, but a chain mover. He is also a decent pass catcher so he fills that role nicely. Good Fit, IMO

I must disagree. This is a terrible move. The last thing Philly needs is another wounded veteran. Lots of mid-career guys looking for teams.

They really need a 3rd guy in the backfield with the same exact style? A healthy Deuce McAllister (or similar runner) would make way more sense.

I would disagree with your disagreement.

As much as Westie has been fantasy gold he becomes a game time decision as the season wears on and Dunn provides enough of a mini-me image of Westie to make this a good insurance policy.

It may turn out to be unnecessary if the rookie shines like people are anticipating it should cost minimal and would be another great player for the rook to learn from.

How many times do we have to go through this?

Philly doesn't want, nor will it ever look for a pound it up the middle Rb. They simply don't believe in it. It is a pass oriented offense that uses small backs as receivers to create mismatches. For as long as Reid is there...that is how it will always be.

If this were the Dunn of the 90's I'd be on board. He's lost a step and isn't a Westy "mini-me". I agree a thumper isn't the guy that wins in that offense.

Dunn is very much a walking wounded ala Westy. That is where I don't see the fit. If they go that direction they double their aging oft injured veterans. This simply smacks of folks thinking like it's 1999.

Just checking on current FA's there are younger options.

One cheaper, younger, and recently very effective FA is Patrick Cobbs. Last year with the Fins he showed he's a heck of a pass catching RB.

How about Edge? 4 years younger then Dunn and has good hands- has caught 60+ 3 times in his career. I know this isn't likely but just throwing it out there.

Dunn may be subject to injury but when healthy he would be more than able to fill in.

If you were counting on Dunn to be the primary player at the RB position I would agree with you that people are living in the past. Dunn unfortunately is beyond the point in his career where a team should expect to successfully utilize him in such a manner for a full season. Philly would not be in that position and are able to use him more appropriately keeping Westie healthier, longer - as they make a run deep into the playoffs.

Andy Reid came out today and debunked this rumor. He's got no interest in Dunn and in fact expressed manlove for McCoy.

I'm not getting too excited about this whether or not it happens... Edge would probably be just as good a fit too (as Chrislabaugh just mentioned) but I think Leonard Weaver could suffice as our short-yardage back this season.

Warrick Dunn showed me he was still a viable option last year, and our depth at RB is very thin if you're not depending solely on Westbrook.
