Dynasty Trade Discussion

I've been wanting to throw this out there, although it was previously posted in the Outlaw County thread.

I know how I feel about this deal, but in order to demonstrate to some of the newcomers to the fantasy realm what goes into a Dynasty/Keeper league trade as opposed to a redraft league, I wanted inputs from our scholars here at the Outlaw.

Some quick background info on the league format. DEEP 16-team Dynasty (keep your entire roster from year-to-year); PPR; IDP; 6 points for all TD's; standard scoring stats aside from that.

My trade partner and I are both new to this league for 2009 and we're both inheriting teams from previous owners. He and I were both pleased with the transaction and the league commish approved it without delay.

I sent Kurt Warner and Ray Rice away and received Jay Cutler.

From my end, I had Warner, Eli Manning and Chad Henne as my QB corps. I also had McFadden, Ronnie Brown, Ray Rice, Tashard Choice, and Michael Bush in my backfield.

I had recently dealt my 2010 first round pick (rookie/FA draft) to a different owner for his 2009 1.06 pick (I already had my original 1.02 pick as well), which meant I needed to free an additional roster spot for that extra pick. My rationale was that alleviated the need to take Stafford/Sanchez with either of those picks, and I could get a suitable replacement for Rice with that 1.06 pick.

In a 1-year league, one would never make that deal, but given the context I am interested to hear some opinions on the deal to possibly give guidance to others who face decisions like this in the future.

Thanks guys.

Dude, you navigated your situation very well.

You now have your QB for the future and really only had to ditch your RB3 to get it.

Avoiding taking a rookie QB was a good move as well!!

That was a big factor for my decision, especially after losing my 2010 pick. Next year will be ripe for franchise rookie QB's. (Bradford, McCoy, Tebow, Snead, LeFevour)

So you now have:
Cutler, Eli, and Henne at QB
Brown, McFadden/Bush, and Choice at RB
'09 1:02 and 1:06 (no 1st in 2010) at present ??

Hope you have a descent WR corp, cause you have to go RB/RB with 2 and 6 picks. You'll be set at QB/RB for some time after that though. I'd have done it

Nice deal for the future IMO. Warner is a dynasty league is only useful in the very short term, anything past that he's dead weight, but still has some value to those trying to make a push now.

You get a strong, young QB that I feel Chicago will build around and you deal Rice who has nice upside, but you don't have any idea how he will do long term.

Current WR corps is T. Holt, K. Walter, C. Henry, Devin Thomas, and Josh Morgan. TE's are Witten and Cooley.

My plan all along was to take Crab with that 1.02 pick, and "someone else" with the 1.06 pick that I dealt for.

I'm currently proposing package offers that involve one of the 2 top-5 TE's for a RB or WR upgrade, but at least I have that flexibility now.

Keep in mind I'm doing what I can with an inherited roster.

I like Wes having the stones to pull the trigger. Since my owners chose not to have a salary cap, every move could be your undoing.

Stones have never been a big problem for me in the past.

Brains, however, are a different story altogether. LOL

Good deep league, great owners, and I dealt that 2010 pick because I don't intend to have the 1.02 or 1.06 pick next year.
