Dwayne Jarrett.....

Jake Delhomme said Tuesday that he believes Dwayne Jarrett is ready for a "much more productive season." Delhomme noted that he "looks in good shape and appears more confident." Jarrett will get all the preseason snaps he can handle with Steve Smith out.

Here we go again......

Id like some thoughts from the Outlaws on the subject.

If I hear good things like that come out of Steve Smith's mouth, I'll believe some hype.

Smith has not been shy about putting this youngster on blast a few times in the past. If he can see some good in him and vocalize it, I'm buying it.

Muhsin Muhammed's no slouch as far as the "big brother" figure, and that didn't quite pan out last year.

Well, Ill go that at some point Jarrett needs to grow up on his own, but that first year was probably a key.

Well, first...if he makes at least 5 catches....he has increased his output by 100%.
Secondly, no way he takes out Muhammad, so at best he will be Wr #3..on a team that passes 1st to S.Smith, 2nd to DWill, 3rd to Muhammad......leaving....5 balls for this guy.

No, I don't believe the hype at all.

I was at their training camp this past Saturday and he was looking great. His routes were sharp and he was catching everything thrown to him. I was impressed.

I don't remember Delhomme overplaying evaluations in the past but I could be wrong - please point this out if I am. This should be interpreted to mean we should keep an eye on him for a possible flyer in the late rounds of drafts that occur after preseason is under way.

It is agreed that Mush is a lock for the #2 but with his advancing age I could see the team wanting to semi-platoon him (a little more often than they would have in the past) as an attempt to keep the entire platoon fresh for a playoff run.

If this is legit Jarrett will have the opportunity to perform during the season but at this point it appears a consensus that a great improvement could still keep him unworthy of a roster spot considering the level he has produced at in the past.

you make some great points CC. I also wonder if S.Smith does miss time with the shoulder...will Jarrett step up..and make himself a chance after that? Would be nice to see him take his head out of his a$$ and earn his pay for once.

Oh Lord.....

Well, being stuck with him in HAFAX, hopefully he catches 10 balls and shocks us all.

Williams only had 22 catches last year, but you're right about Jarret's position in the pecking order. Carolina attempted the fewest passes in the NFL last season, and they have what amounts to a "game manager" QB at this point.
Even if Jarrett wins the #3 job, that doesn't equate to anything worthwhile in this offense.

I posted about this in the Steve Smith injury thread. Coaching staff and management has been raving about the new work ethic that Jarrett has brought to camp. Routes are crisp, and the guy is catching anything and everything.

Often times, it is all about maturity. And too often, these guys hit the NFL before they have reached any level of maturity. Having a dedicated gamer like Steve Smith to put him in his place may have been all the "wake up call" that Jarrett needed.

It's a shame that Antonio Bryant didn't have somebody to knock him down a level while in Dallas.
