WR/TE Wiford released

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins have given up on their experiment with Ernest Wilford at tight end -- or anywhere else.
Wilford's contract was terminated Monday. The Dolphins also waived running back Anthony Kimble, nose tackle Joe Cohen and linebackers Orion Martin and Tearrius George. Receiver Chris Williams was waived injured.
Wilford, Miami's biggest free-agent bust since the Bill Parcells regime took over, moved from receiver to tight end this year. He caught a 33-yard touchdown pass against Jacksonville's reserves in the exhibition opener but had no catches in the second preseason game Saturday.
Wilford made only three catches for 25 yards last season after signing a four-year contract for $6 million guaranteed.

11:49 ET The Dolphins further pared their roster today by trading OLs Ike Ndukwe and Andy Alleman to Kansas City for an undisclosed 2010 draft pick.

JAX - WR Ernest Wilford signed
The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed free-agent TE Ernest Wilford (Dolphins). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Wilford returns to the Jaguars after a disappointing season with the Dolphins last year. However, he comes back with the intention of making the team as a tight end instead of a receiver. The Jags were hopeful about rookie Zach Miller, but he is now lost for the season due to injury. Marcedes Lewis has not lived up to his potential, and the team would like to see what Wilford can do at his new position.
