A month after selecting cornerbacks Vontae Davis and Sean Smith within the first 61 picks of the draft, the Dolphins have signed left corner Will Allen to a two-year extension, agent Drew Rosenhaus said Tuesday.

Rosenhaus announced on his Twitter page that Allen's deal is worth $16.2 million over the next three years, with $10 million in guarantees.

Allen recorded 50 tackles, three interceptions, 15 pass defenses and a forced fumble last year for AFC East champion Miami.

A bit of a surprise.

Maybe one of the rooks don't pan out. Having him on the leash for awhile is a a decent safety valve/depth thing.

sounds like they just want to keep exp. in that position and give the 2 new rookies time to learn the system. Anything the Dolphins do to keep last years club together is a good move.

I'm just saying, just because you have drafted two CBs during the first day of the draft doesn't mean that you have solved all your CB problems and won't have to draft or get a Free agent CB for the next 8 seasons. It doesn't really work that way as too many first and second rounders don't work out at all. They have seen the rooks in a couple of camps now and have probably found out a lot. Maybe one is a Bona Fide instant starter in the NFL, just rip him out of the box and set him loose on the field. Maybe the other looks like one that will need a little tempering, a little nickleback action and some special teams work. I don't see keeping Will Allen around as a bad thing at all.
