Denver QB and McDaniels overall

I didn't even know that Simms was in the discussion. McDaniels won't make it past this first year at this rate.

Broncos | Starting quarterback won't be named soon Sat May 30, 07:59 AM
Jim Armstrong, of The Denver Post, reports although Denver Broncos QB Chris Simms has been working extensively with the first-team offense during the team's passing camp, both he and QB Kyle Orton figure to get long looks into the preseason before any decision is made about the starter. 'Same thing,' McDaniels said when asked if there were any new developments at the position. 'Both of them will take reps with the 1s, and we're going to keep doing that until it becomes clear and apparent, and it's not yet. They're both doing some good things, and they're both making some mistakes.'

I figured this would be Simms year - Orton needs at least a year to be de- and then re-programmed due to his time in Chicago.
I will be shocked if Simms sees the field. I am shocked he is in the equation at all........................then I remember that McDaniels is the Coach and I snap out of it!

  • -- Chris Simms Remains the Underdog in QB Competition --

  • ESPN reports Denver Broncos QB Chris Simms is still very much the underdog in the team's starting quarterback competition. If Simms won the job over QB Kyle Orton, it will be a huge upset.

This sounds about right!

Scheffler clears the air with McDaniels Sat May 30, 07:37 AM

Jim Armstrong, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, who heard his name in trade rumors following the trade of former QB Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears, recently had an air-clearing meeting with head coach Josh McDaniels.

Our view: 'It's definitely something we sat down and talked about,' Scheffler said. 'Nothing happened. It's in the past. In this league, you've got to move forward to the next day and keep moving or you'll get left behind. I'm on board with Josh. It's been a lot of fun.' It seems like coach McDaniels is warming up to his playmaking TE. The Broncos are going to try and be more run heavy than people expect - but if they need to air it out Tony Scheffler will provide a reliable target over the deep middle.

the above is from fbg . . . although this team has very good wr's, sheffler is a well rounded te that can stretch the field . . . i like this guy in the mid to late rounds . . . probably a lil bit after owen daniels . . . no matter who wins the qb battle, sheffler is a solid target and/or safety valve . . . moreno could actually hurt sheffler's value a bit though . . . ;)

Nice analysis, Morenos' pass catching ability could pull some action away from Schef. But it could all boil down to playcalling. A couple of quick throws to Moreno could set Schef up for a big play. LBs and safeties start cheating into the flats and Schef could tag them with a big play in that vacume. If the playcalling is smart you should consider that you could be replacing/trading off a couple of chain moving catches with a 30 yard strike.
