Davis Named 49er's Captain

News: Tight end Vernon Davis has been selected as one of the San Francisco 49ers captains, coming a long way since being kicked off the field by Mike Singletary with more than 10 minutes remaining against Seattle last October for behavior the coach didn't like. In fact, the excitable Davis has come a long way just since training camp.

Could it be that Davis is finally ready to play to his potential?

Troublemakers are usually just very confused natural born leaders. If Singletary can turn this waste of talent into a positive force on the field and in the locker room then he gets my vote for coach of the year.

I'm predicting Davis will become a Legit TE1 this year.

I think this is definitely a great sign. Looks like he's got his act together in the locker room, now we need to see if he can get it together on the field.

Well....this will go down as one of the stupidest decisions ever. Just my opinion though

Occasionally, some of the head cases actually grow up.

Most times, they let their attitude ruin their career.

When a head case turns it around, there is usually a dynamic coach behind them.

I like Singletary A LOT so far...

We'll see.

I think it all goes to his head

Maybe its just taking longer than expected to get there :runaround:

Solid performance today, the kind that makes guys run to the waiver wire and drop a solid backup performer thinking Davis blowing his career wad today will be an every week thing.

Im trying to figure out how he is a headcase and trouble maker? I haven't heard about him getting into no trouble with law or with the team other then that one time with the coach. Someone enlighten me.

Someone enlighten me.

I don't know the history either Nikki, but I get the feeling that he disappointed a lot of fantasy owners for several years and they finally threw in the towel on him.

I haven't been burned by him yet so it's easy for me to be optimistic.

So because he sucks fantasywise he is a trouble maker and a headcase? Guy got in trouble once that I know of that doesn't make you a trouble maker or a headcase.

Someone help me out here.

All I really know is dude put up 26pts, Hill throws to him ALL the time, Singletary has faith in him and he seems to be enjoying playing football this year.

In the past he has been lazy at practice and then blows up and gets penalized in games. The final straw was last year after Singletary took over, he did a bone head thing in a game and got flagged. It was in the first half. Singletary said he has had enough and sent him to the locker room after that. In fact he was a non-factor for most of the rest of the season. It was the reason behind Singletary's famous speech about winners last year - "can't coach em, can't play with them, can't win with them...don't want" kind of thing.

OK Thank you. I think sometimes we say headcase and troublemaker to easily and wanted to see what this guy did to be called these names. I honestly didn't know about anything other then the blow he had with the coach. I still don't think this means he is a troublemaker or headcase he might have had the loser mentality and needed someone to get on him and the coach did.

The other big negative against him is his ego. He has always let the press clippings from the draft and his ability write checks he was not mature enough to cash. The worse he did, the more he flapped his gums. But that isn't more than some others too.
