Cower waiting on NYG job?

From rotoworld,

Ex-Steelers RB Jerome Bettis said Thursday that Bill Cowher hasn't accepted a head coaching job the past couple of seasons because he's "holding out" for the Giants job.

New York is "where he always wanted to be," said Bettis. "The Mara family, he's been very close to them ... and was on the inside track -- before the Giants won the Super Bowl -- for that job." Bettis, who is tight with his former head coach, believes Cowher will end up coaching the Giants eventually. If Tom Coughlin misses the playoffs again next year, it could happen as soon as 2011. Thoughts everyone? His wait surely got shorter after the dismal finish the Giants had to this season.

Oh yeah, if Coughlin blows it this year expect Cowher Power in 2011.

Unless the Carolina job opens up, then Id expect him to take it.

How long can he stay out of coaching before the game "passes him by?" And can the game really pass by a coach? I say that it can. What say the Outlaws?

I dont think it can pass him by. The ability to hire the right coordinators and run an operation dont really change.

It appeared that something had sure passed Ditka by when he ran the Saints. Same thing for Hank Stram when he had a turn in New Orleans.

As the game changes so must the HC, Joe Gibbs is a prime example of the game passing him by when he attempted his most recent comeback.

The game is so much faster than it was 15-20 years ago, RBBC is the norm, sure wasn't like that in the 70's and 80's

I agree here, at some point his past history will no longer carry him. Look at what happened in Washington when Gibbs came back after a long lay off.

He holds out too much longer.....and he may not be that great a canidate.

It is assumed that he wants the Carolina job, but I don't know if he has ever really come out and said it.

As for the game passing him by, I think he is a ways from having to worry about that. Gibbs completely left football, for a long time.

Cowher isn't in any danger of the game passing him by. He's young and he's not indoctrinated, he can probably come up with things that would blow most coach's minds if he sat down and thought about it.
