Coach Sparano On RB Ronnie Brown

he South Florida SunSentinel, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano said he has been impressed with RB Ronnie Brown's conditioning this offseason and believes he will play well this season because he is 18 months removed from reconstructive knee surgery.

I see he is a third rounder, seems like a nice value there.

In any normal league, Brown would be my #1 pick. The guy, from all reports, is in playing shape right now (which is not normal for him) and is as explosive as he was during 2007 (if not more so). I fully believe Ronnie is capable of 2000+ combined yards this year.

You, my friend, are the biggest homer I have ever come into contact with.

Not really. I wouldn't touch any other Fins player early, since Ginn's only a WR3 on my board.

Oh, and before dismissing my opinion of Brown as homerism, you might want to consider I have a reason to believe Brown is capable of 2,000 combined yards.

Please do that for me.

Ronnie has never passed the 1300 yard mark, let alone 2000.

Just like how Selvin Young was gonna get 2000 yards last year.

Don't get me wrong, I like Ronnie. He's a stud. He ain't getting no 2000 yards though.

In 07 he was well on his way to 2,000 combined yards and without the injury would've reached it easily. In 08 it wasn't happening because he wasn't all there mentally, like most guys with knee injuries he didn't trust his rebuilt knee until later on. It's gonna happen this year, though, because Brown's just that good anyway and because of what the Fins are doing with the offense.

Very good point. He could have gotten it done in 07. Shit happens though.

2000 yards is just too much for me to buy into though.

Only 1 player has done it in the past 2 years.

And what of it? Look, if this were some vanilla offense Miami was going to run I'd agree that Brown isn't going to reach 2,000 yards. But this is Miami we're taking about here, vanilla is so far in the back mirror it might as well not exist. Hell, I've been reading about the OTAs and in one blog a beat writer was so shocked and awed by what was being run in an open practice he didn't want to write about it. And that was after describing a couple of really freaky variations on the Wildcat. If a couple D coordinators don't stroke out trying to find ways to defend the Fins this year, I would be amazed.

I think the issue here is that you're not thinking vertically enough. Don't think so much 1500/500, but more towards 1k/1k.

I think the two of you need to have an avatar bet on this.

On whether or not Ronnie gets 2000 yards? That's not even fair.

Only 7 RBs have recorded 2000+ yards in the last 5 years.

Their names : Brian Westbrook, LT, Frank Gore, Larry Johnson(2), Tiki Barber (3), Steven Jackson, Edge.

Those were some of the greatest RB years to date. Not sure I'm ready to put Ronnie in that category based on some beat writer getting a hardon over some funky wildcat formations.

It's not just the Wildcat, though. It's a lot of spread concepts gone twisted. To give you an example of one play that was described, the team goes into the huddle with a pony full house set (Brown, Williams, and Cobbs). But instead of a full house, the running backs split wide and run 3 Verticals. Brown makes a diving catch that would give any WR you could name a woody.

It's totally cool Dearborn, You get the great honor of being the biggest homer on the board.

That is pretty sweet if you ask me. You'll go to hell and back for your Dolphins.

One day we'll make a scrap book of all the crazy things you've said about Dolphin players. It will start with the 1 about Dan Marino coming back and throwing for 6000 yards and end with the 1 about Ronnie gaining 2000.
