CJ Spiller may become a hold out

rotoworld,
C.J. Spiller says he won't rush to sign his rookie contract before training camp.

"We're going to make sure we cross our T's and dot our I's, however long the process takes. I just have to be patient," said the No. 9 overall pick. Last year's No. 9 pick, B.J. Raji, held out of Packers camp for two weeks. That was partially due to Michael Crabtree's unique situation, but Spiller's comments indicate that he isn't ruling out a training camp holdout.

Pathetic. Don't sign him this year and dont trade him either. Let him sit around for a year unemployed and unpaid until he relizes how lucky and privaliged he is for a chance to even play in the NFL. When next season comes around, he'll jump at any contract offering .

he won't be the only one if he does......but I agree that this rookie hold out shit has to end. Slot them at the salary per the pick they were selected and make these rooks earn their respect and cash.

Why are not the players agents vilified in these "rookie holdout" scenarios?

Owners get accused of being greedy slave owners and players get accused of being self centered prima donnas but no mention of the player's agent.

These 22/23 year old kids come out of college with a much lower education than their diploma may indicate and the best advice they can get from friends, family and peers is "get an agent".

So they get an agent that immediately starts blowing smoke up their shoot, telling them what a great player they are and putting inflated values on their head.

Is the agent representing the best interest of the player?....The drafting team?

No....The agent is in it to make a buck and his bucks are proportionate to the amount of money that the player makes.

Most of these kids would PAY to play in the NFL when they come out of college but they get swept into the business that is professional sports and fall victim to the vultures who look to profit from their talent.

In a lot of instances the players could actually make more money (take home pay) if they fired their lawyers and agents and personal trainers and just took what the drafting team offered them.

Of course, then the greedy owners would rape the guy so I guess it's a moot poinjt.

Unproven talent and people should always get gobs more money than the proven veterans, right?

I hate these entitled pieces of garbage....

I don't think Spiller was ever drafted to be the #1. He was drafted to be Reggie Bush light. A guy they can move all over the place to create mismatches, and give a change of pace for Jackson.

I think they still have Lynch due to lack of trade value and money spent. If some team gets a major injury...I could see a trade at some point. Buffalo really does not want him.

(Rotoworld) NFL Network's Steve Wyche reports that unsigned No. 9 overall pick C.J. Spiller's rookie contract "could take awhile." Analysis: Spiller admitted earlier this month that he's in no rush to sign, so a holdout shouldn't surprise anyone. Meanwhile, Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch will duke it out for the early-down feature back role. F-Jax is the favorite.
