Contrary to earlier reports, the Chargers will place a first-and-third tender on Sproles, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The Chargers will have to pay big Bucks to Sproles unless they re-do his contract.

Beat writer Kevin Acee reports the Chargers have released NT Jamal Williams. Nose Tackle in the first round anybody?

Help me out here. Since no team would pay a first/third price for Sproles, what do the Chargers have to give him for 2010? I know it's an uncapped year, but I would still think they would shy away from a huge contract for a 3rd down back/kick returner.

Obviously, I'm not up on capology............

It's not about the bucks, it's about the impact losing him will have. Obviously they believe his presence on the roster is key to their success.

OK. It just seems that he is obviously not the answer as the main back, and I thought when they franchised him last year, that was what they were thinking. That's a big price tag for a role player, but I guess money is secondary with no cap. In that instance, good move by SD.

Now the question is who will they pair him with. I'm thinking Lynch would be a good fit in SD. Jackson is too good and well rounded to be in a 50/50 time share in Buffalo and Lynch is too good to be a 25 percent guy.

It seems that dropping Williams indicates they will go NT/DT early instead of RB, so I expect a trade or a FA signing to fill the RB slot.
