Chargers RB Mike Tolbert Would like to stay a Charger.

San Diego Chargers impending free-agent RB Mike Tolbert said he would like to re-sign with the team this offseason but will listen to other teams and make the best choice for his family.

I think he has earned his right to be a starter on another team. He could handle a full workload easily. I don't think there is room enough for him and Matthews at their talent level.

I also think that Tolbert can be a starter for another team. I'd like to see him in Detroit. The Lions need a legitimate full workload running back who can run between the tackles.

The Chargers would probably have to overpay in order to keep Tolbert.

You know another team talent stacked at RB imo who doesnt rely heavily on RB is NO and thats not even counting Sproles at that position. I think a Ivory should be their lead back. Thomas is a beast himself and I like the look of Ingrams future. Ingram and Ivory are very young and Thomas is pretty much a youngster himself. Thats way too much talent for one team if they are all healthy. I would like to hear Mud's opinion on this issue. I like your thinking storm with tolbert in Det. i was thinking he would be a good fit in Cinci if they would get rid of Benson.

Not sure about Det, they have LeShore, Smith, etc ...

LeShore had a serious injury. A torn achilles is almost impossible to come back from. He might not be ready until 2013 if at all. Smith is a good talent, but injured all the time. Best might be out of football for good. Detroit needs a full time RB. I could see them go after David Wilson maybe in this years draft if he is still available in the 2nd or 3rd.

Detroit needs a workhorse RB. Imagine how good that offense would be with a bruiser that can run in between the tackles. That would make defenses take coverage away from the WRs to help fill the box. In turn that would leave Megatron with more single coverages for play action.

Thanks for the inj updated. I knew they had a bunch, but was unsure of the long term seriousness. Just knew they had a pile of talent on inj last year

Best is coming back, says he is symptom free after a couple of concussions sent him to IR. If he comes back and can take the pounding The Lions will be fine at RB. But we are all starting to realize the ongoing effects of concussions. The trouble for the Lions is that while there is a lot of talent in the roster they all have potential injury limitations going forward.

Tolbert may have to change teams as he may be offered a lot more Money than the Chargers will pony up. Tough to say, It is about time for the Bengals to spend some money at RB but I really don't know how this years draft stacks up at RB. Beannie is decent at Arizona but they might need and upgrade as the dropoff after that is pretty steep. But a lot of teams are in pretty good shape at RB so the market may not be as good for Tolbert as we think.

That's the thing. I don't think he can take a pounding. He has had his first 2 seasons marred with injury. The lingering concussion issues are very scary. Even if he is symptom free, I'd be scared for him to come back. Unless he bulks up this off season to enable him to take hits.

for real though whoever gets him (if he leaves) is really lucky as he's one of only a few in a dying breed as the game progresses... i wouldn't give him too long a contract though... i think his career will be shortened by cheeseburgers

We're not talking about Lendale "The Hamburgler" White here

How about this theory, and it is just my own. Atlanta is supposedly worried about mileage on Turner. They had success taking one UFA rb from San Diego.... How about another? :dunno:
