Updating a previous report, PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Cadillac Williams (knee) will start in the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 27.

A bit of a surprise, heard he was doing well.

Terrible news for Wards value if true:

Morris also detailed how he plans to use Cadillac, Derrick Ward, and Earnest Graham in the regular season. The starter will play the first two series, the No. 2 back will get the next two, and the No. 3 will take the fifth. In other words, the Bucs plan on using a 2-2-1 three-headed monster. Ward is Tampa Bay's best runner, but may not see more than 12-15 touches a game if the plan sticks. There will be no designated "goal-line specialist."

I wrote in my NFC RBBC article that the primary split will be between Ward and Graham, with Graham getting the majority of the 3rd-and-short and goal-line type carries, with Williams spelling both guys occasionally and serving as injury insurance.
Regardless of what Raheem is projecting now, I'll stand by my prediction until proven otherwise. Ward will still get slightly more overall touches than he got last season, and produce accordingly. He's still by far the best receiver out of the backfield on this roster.

Yeah he did. Interesting to hear the interview with the RB coach tonight saying he wanted to bump Caddy up to #1 for the season.

I hope the guy has gotten through his injuries, and really rooting for him to succeed this year. It's always good to see a guy stay this committed to succeeding

Yeah, don't read too much into that. The Fins weren't playing anywhere near as well as they're capable of and a lot of the personnel groupings were apparently experimental. He won't repeat that in the regular season.

It's been quite a spell since the Fins played as well as they are capable of, no offense intended. Welcome back Caddy.

Caddy has endured two major knee surgeries and is running and cutting like his knee's are in good shape.

I hope he has a injury free season, he deserves it after all he's been thru.

Um, last year ring any bells? Hell, the first and second pre-season games played better than this. Also, apparently (I don't know if this is true) the Bucs were treating that game like a regular season one, while the Fins basically didn't do anything besides deciding to dick around a bit. Although, I will concede that there was some truly atrocious play.

Miami's run defense looked fine but the pass defense was shoddy, and that may be a compliment. Stovall had something ridiculous like 6 catches and 74 yards in the FIRST QUARTER, and he's not even projected to be a starter.
Considering their first 2 draft picks were CB's and they brought in a new Safety, I'd be concerned a bit regardless of what they were or weren't trying to do against a mediocre pass attack.
Caddy wasn't a world-beater by any means, but the fact that he made all the runs and cut a little bit has to be encouraging to Raheem on some level.

Actually, both Smith and Davis played very well. If anything they were the two best defensive backs playing last night, even better than Will Allen. Also, I noticed that the Fins were playing a LOT of Quarters, which inherently gives up the underneath. One thing I did notice is that all the DBs seemed to get beat by the slant an awful lot, which makes me believe they were expecting more outside and deep routes.

Here's my theory. The Fins are transitioning to a 3-4 Quarters zone blitz, which so far as I know hasn't been tried in the NFL before. I think the coaches were treating that game as a lab to test some stuff. I did notice some huge pressure last night, so obviously the blitz is getting there, it's just the coverage that needs to be tightened up. I'm just glad that kind of game happened in the pre-season and not in week 2 like last year.

Btw, you were as impressed with Stroughter as I was? The dude was tearing it up.

There was plenty of pressure on McCown, but Lefty mostly had time to step up in the pocket the entire time he was in the game.

That was largely because Pasq wasn't ordering up the blitzes until after the rain delay. It's not like the pressure was impossible against the Buc's starting line, 'cause McCown was behind that same line when he was busy shitting his pants at all the pressure.
