Bucs Rumor Mill ???

The Bucs and Rams have reportedly explored a deal that would send the No. 3 overall pick, a third-round pick, and QB Josh Johnson to St. Louis for the first overall selection.

The Bucs would then draft Ndamukong Suh with the No. 1 pick. According to Scout.com, the Rams compare Johnson to Michael Vick athletically, and they believe he has even more upside as a passer.

Interesting. While the Bucs settled on Josh Freeman as their QB of the future Josh Joshson showed plenty preseason promise compared to the aging and underperforming vets that the Bucs started the season using at QB.

Everyone who thinks highly of Johnson is well-noted (myself included), but if this rumor has any teeth, it's not about him.
This deal would be absolutely perfect for both sides. TB gets the guy they probably wanted all along (Suh) and could've had if they wouldn't have reverse choked and started pulling out victories at the end of the year. Johnson would probably never be anything more to them except a wildcat-type guy and competent #2. Like I said, I think highly of him, but he's no Michael Vick athletically.
Now, this is the ultimate shrewd move for the Rams. They're completely off the hook now when they draft Clausen/Bradford. Lesser signing bonus, no pressure of choking with the top overall pick, and since they now won't have the decision to make between Suh and a QB they won't have to answer those questions either. They also get a QB who can be a caretaker for half a season until their rookie gets ready, plus a very nice 3rd round pick.
Great move for both sides.

I too am on the Josh Johnson bandwagon, but Wes is right in saying JJ will never get his fair shake at QB in Tampa. Knowing our defense we need Suh. I agree with the guys that this deal would be great for all, but it means I'll have to give up hoping that Baby Face gets injured (not too badly of course) and JJ gets a real chance to shine. Sigh....

This is my take: I like Josh Johnson a lot, and wish him nothing but the best. The Bucs have chosen their QB though. There's no hiding the fact that no other QB, barring injury, will see the field anytime soon, other than Josh Freeman. I'd like to see Josh Johnson get a shot, and if that means shipping him to a new city, then so be it. On the flip side, it gives the Bucs the 1st pick they want, and allows the Rams to get rid of the 1st pick that they don't want.

That's on the Top 10 list of things I never thought I'd hear you say!! We're so screwed. LOL

So Khris/Rachelle/Skedar, which scenario do you like better?

Keeping everything as is and possibly getting Berry at #3, or this scenario where you get Suh, but lose your backup QB and a 3rd rounder?

From an interested outsider's perspective, here's what I'd like to see, in order of what I think would benefit TB the most.

1. Try having something in place with Seattle so that if the Rams definitely take a QB or sign one early prior to draft day, you execute a deal with them for your #3 and your 3rd rounder for both of their 1st rounders (6 and 14). There's still a great chance that Berry's there at 6, but now you'd be looking at someone such as Brandon Graham(DE) or Dan Williams(DT) at 14. If Berry's gone, it only means that McCoy or Okung hasn't been picked yet presuming the 2 QB's are off the board. Then you still get an elite player. So for the sake of argument, what sounds better: McCoy in the first, or Berry and another highly ranked D-lineman in the first? (This is of course conditional on the assumption that Seattle wants one of those QB's)
2. Stay put with what you currently have, draft McCoy, Berry or Okung at #3, and keep that 3rd rounder, which in this draft could yield a superb player (think WR).
3. Follow the rumor mill and take Suh with the #1 overall.

.

I agree with Wes on this. The #1 one pick is almost impossible to trade out of it almost takes someone else in the top 5 to really pull it off. Lots of pressure is relieved if they don't need to grab a QB. For the Rams if any QB from the first round makes a spash they will be the goat forever for not getting him. Now they can grab any player they want and maybe even trade down again for more picks with so many holes to fill.

Roy Cummings, of The Tampa Tribune, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could make free-agent offers to Carolina Panthers DL Julius Peppers or Green Bay Packers LB Aaron Kampman in the offseason.

NFL Network reports that Julius Peppers is more likely to sign with the Patriots or even the Bears. Even though the Pats have a healthy collection of draft picks, they also love to snag veteran players. I don't see Peppers flying south to Tampa.

Wes, great questions. For all who missed the Fantasy Football Outlaws radio show this past Monday night, Khris and Ryan addressed this post specifically on the show :) Click on to hear Archive of Fantasy Football Outlaws | USF Bulls Radio to get the scoop.
