What floors me was his supporting cast during this run.

Saints | Brees on amazing run Mon Jun 1, 11:49 AM
Peter King, of SI.com, reports New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has thrown for 13,910 yards over his last three years. In the 89-year history of the National Football League, only one player has thrown for more yards in a three-year period than Brees. Former QB Dan Marino threw for 13,967 yards between 1984-86.

Ive always thought D,Brees was a damn good QB and was sure that the Chargers made a huge mistake by trading Brees. He's a gamer where i feel that P.Rivers would be a down grade in the long run. Look's like that might be the case as Brees is showing he has earned his elite status.

Not sure I follow you. SD certainly could not afford to keep both for very long and Rivers has done pretty well. I don't fault SD at all for making the call to retain one (either would have been fine).

Brees has done much better than I originally thought he would coming into the league.

Your initial post referenced that Brees was #2 for yardage over a 3 year period behind Marino and I was wondering if you knew who came in 3rd.

Wasn't sure if there was a connection between teams with the highest passing yardage and playoff/Super Bowl records during the same period.
....and i was hoping you knew. lol! I would guess Warner if you just took 3 years he started the whole way.

I dont see the Chargers have improved any with drafting Rivers. You nailed it, Rivers has done pretty well, Brees has done a whole lot better.

Really? The goal is still winning isn't it?

Rivers: 27 yoa, 6'5", 105.5 rating, 4,009 yds/65.3 pct, 2.7 rush avg

Brees: 30 yoa, 6'0", 96.2 rating, 5,069 yds/65 pct, 0.0 rush avg

Compare NO w/ SD for the past 3 yrs and what Brees accomplished before leaving SD

SD w/ Rivers: Div. champs 06 - 08
SD w/ Brees: no playoffs in 03 or 05 but did take the div. in 04
NO w/ Brees: Div. champ 06 but no playoffs for 07 or 08

No Super Bowl for either one that puts them in the same boat :)

Really? How low on the list is a SB participant?

Would have been nice if Moon had not spent so much time in that frozen Yukon league - he was great to watch and would have a lot more records if the NFL was ready for him earlier.

Whats the criteria now? I thought we were discussing great passing (yards) QBs who hadn't won a SB. Marino was there but didn't win one. Not winning one seems to be a defining criteria among top QBs.

At the top of career yards we have Marino and Moon sandwiched inbetween Favre and Elway.

Great observation, Moon surprised me a bit. But after thinking about it some Moon was in the Fantasy superstar that we thought Cpep was after a few years with Moss. Cpep got that hype while Moon actually did it, year after year....after year.

Jim Kelly, is another QB who spent a few years throwing 4,000 yards a year for the USFL Hoston Gamblers.

Thought it was a nebulous thing were were talking about - I was wondering if QB's with that many attempt...yardage over a 3 yr period was covering a weakness on the team and although successful was not enough to reach the top. I thought Marino, Brees and Moon were leading this list making me wonder where the SB participant (figured it was only fair to include the top team of the opposing conference as having reached the top even if not the SB champion) fell on the list. That would still not include Marino as his highest 3 year yardage total began the year after the SB appearance.

Cully had Randy but Moon seemed to make everyone a potential superstar at the WR position.

I don't consider Kelly since I was a Dolphin fan (don't tell DD'fan) and he was a thorn in our side for to many seasons.

Fantasy vs. real life.

Brees is a slam dunk in fantasy. Rivers is no slouch, but he's not putting up 5k yards anytime soon.

If NO could even field a league average defense, we're probably talking about perennial Super Bowl contenders.

With all that said, I prefer Brees as the #2 fantasy QB this year behind Brady, but ahead of Peyton.
