Brees: "Ill never sit out the season"

That's a quote from Brees to ESPN. "I love the game too much. I love my team too much." Maybe not the smartest thing for him to say while in negotiations for a new contract but comfoting for Saints fans non-the-less. July 16 is fast approaching and I still expect Brees to become the highest paid player in the NFL before that date. Still, I hate the time he's missing with the team.

Re: Brees: "I never sit out the season"

Sorry, I can't edit the title of the thread the change the "I" to "I'll" never.

I don't think this is a big surprise. Although, I think its the big $$$$ that go with the Franchise tag that drives this more than his "love" for team and game.

The biggest revelation coming from this thread, I think, is that there are only 4 posts and 3 of them are Mud's.

Contract negotiations of fantasy studs is usually a pretty hot topic on the boards but there is an air of apathy surrounding this one.

I wonder, is it just that Brees is a reputed "good guy" and there is a lot of certainty that he will be slinging again in 2012 or has the scandal put a bullet through the heart of Brees' (et al) fantasy interest?

I can't help but think if this was a Brady or Rogers contract thread that there would be a lot more interest in the outcome.

Great questions, I wonder if this is also part and parcel of burn out from last year's lock out, and folks assuming this will just get done.

Personally, I knew he was going to play. Like it or not, the players allowed ownership to keep the tags, and it is a system that is used. He had to know he would get tagged. I also know, no way won't he play and walk away from that money, it didn't work for those who have in the past.

So I don't see Brees, or MJD or Forte or any other big tagged player like Welker holding out. They may sit out camp, or most of it, but they will be there for the games. WE all know this,so we aren't panicking this year.

I do think though, as the camp misses start, you will see discussions on how this will effect players. CJ2k held out, and had a crappy season. So have others. Then we may have some interesting discussion.
