Bills RB Fred Jackson a starter this year?

With a year invested under head coach Chan Gailey and his offensive staff, Fred Jackson appears to have the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to be the true incumbent starter at running back heading into 2011, BuffaloBills.com reports.

The explosive C.J. Spiller is going to be a factor in this backfield as well, but Jackson is a better all-around player right now and we can envision at least a 60-40 split in his favor. We don't see the Bills doing anything noteworthy in free agency to change this setup, and the Bills seem to like rookie Johnny White enough that they may just be content to bring in a veteran body or two to compete for a final roster spot. Jackson seems like a top-20 fantasy RB any way you slice it, especially when you factor in receiving potential.

The Rb to own in Buffalo is Jackson. Spiller was a mistake. There are articles out now that says in his 2nd year he still doesn't know the playbook. That is just sad. Jackson is a do all type, and is excellent in receptions out of the back field. He is always a guy I target mid draft for a great #2 or #3 rb.

Jackson also seems to be a good pass blocker also which is a lot of times a big key for a RB to get starting time. Hard for Spiller to be a good pass blocker if he doesn't know where he should be and what his assignment is. :)

Honestly, what killed Spiller was a few things.

First was the final development of Johnson at Wr. Once Fitzgerald found out Stevie was there and viable, he looked Wr first and always either there or at Evans.
Second was the maturation of Fitzgerald. I think the original plan was to have more dump offs and screens. But Fitzgerald surprised them and was capable or utitilizing the outside receivers more.
Lastly was Spiller's stupidity. He wasn't signed quickly, didn't learn the play book, and really made no effort to take over. Even on specialty plays developed for him.

Three strikes...and you are out.

Freddy is 30 yrs old.....should be solid, but not seeing a breakout, knock your socks off year. I also think that after 1 yr, it's a little early to write off Spiller.

(Rotoworld) Beat writer Chris Brown suggests that Fred Jackson could have his best season as a rusher in 2011. Analysis: Jackson has been an afterthought heading into previous seasons, stuck behind Marshawn Lynch or the hype of C.J. Spiller. But he comes into this season with the backing of coach Chan Gailey and is the clear starter as we get set for camp. We're expecting something around 250 touches for the 30-year-old Jackson, but touchdowns figure to be tough to come by.

Yes he is 30yrs old, but hardly any mileage on him. As he has been stuck behind bad draft choices of Lynch and Spiller.
