Source -- Big East sends invites to five schools, may hike exit fee - ESPN

Of the 5 schools they invited, 4 are new members of the con-usa/mtn west merger, Houston. SMU and UCF of con-usa and Boise of Mtn west. Also trying to recruit independent Navy and Air Force, who look like they will say no thanks and i think the others mentioned above will say so no also since the new merger. Big East is getting desperate and it just needs to disolve into other conferences. Wouldn't be suprised to see it happen esp with the talk of Louisville and WV maybe going to the Big 12. No stability in the Big east so why would anybody want to go there and the teams invited are just so far away also. Hoping the teams mentioned above in the merger stay put in the new super conference.

Read an article that spelled out a disturbing fact for the Big East. Even by adding these schools, when the recertification comes up for automatic qualifier conferences in two years the Big East will fail to make standards in two of the three areas.

That is disturbing. Looks like they are on there way out as a conference. After this story broke nothing has been said about it tho. Not sure whats going on now.

FOOTBALL!
I no longer see any hope for the Big East, as a football conference.

UConn and Rutgers to ACC makes sense. WVU, Cincy, Louisville, and USF need to start talking to the Texas and the medium 8.

Big 16 West: Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, BYU, UNLV, SDSU
Big 16 East: Baylor, Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State, Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia, South Florida

ACC North: Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Boston College, UConn, Rutgers, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech
ACC South: North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami

Big East East: Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Georgetown, Duquense, Dayton, Notre Dame
Big East West: Marquette, DePaul, Butler, Xavier, Creighton, Saint Louis, Bradley, Wichita State

This could be the last year, and it really seems to be going that way, that the Big East exsists. With all the rumors flowing around that the next move depends on what Missouri does. If they go to the SEC then that is the death of the Big East as Big 12 is planning on inviting WV/Louisville to join. At least thats what i've been hearing lately.

Still not sure that we have an interest in adding West Virginia to the Big 12. The travel costs for them and us would be pretty high, and the only school we would consider as a football only member would be Notre Dame, and even that is a stretch since we want their strong basketball programs.

Louisville appears to be the primary target, as they have a decent following and good teams in football and basketball.

I truly believe the day the Big East signed its own death warrant was back in the 90s when they denied Penn State admission to the conference. Penn State probably plays for another national title or two if they were in the Big East versus the Big 10.

Adding WV would be a long travel. Not sure what they are thinking by trying to add Boise besides they see them as their superman team to save the conference. Its just way to many miles to travel to play the games. Closest is Louisville and they might not even be around. Imagine Boise one week going to USF to play then having to go to Rutgers or WV the following week. Doesnt seem applicable or financially smart.

For new tv veiwers and recruiting areas i understand the move. Other than that it seems like a stupid move. I still do over like it happening as WV will start having to play better compitition. But a move for them to the ACC makes more sence. Almost seems like it would be better for the ACC to ingulf all the Big east teams and get it over with.
