Big East adds some schools in attempt to save AQ status

Boise State and San Diego State of the Mountain West as football only members
Houston, SMU, and UCF as full members of the conference.

Rumors out there about adding Navy and Air Force as well, but talks arent going great.

Dissapointed UCF, SMU and Houston did this. Was looking forward to the huge 22 team conference when conusa/mwc merged for football. And don't know what UCF is thinking, now they will play in the same conference as USF and it will make it even harder to recruit better players.

And BSU and SDSU is going to be one heck of a trek to play any games.

The most southwesterly Div 1A program on the continent is in the Big East? Big East could use a geography lesson while the Big and Small Can't-Count-Conferences take an arithmetic lesson.

Ive read the MWC and C-USA will still merge. Looks like the Big East is trying to form a western division and eastern division. THis is still a huge mess.

Big East is a mess. They went into panic mode when Pit/Syracuse/WVU decided to leave. So they go out and get much less talented programs. Winning the BE will be a toss up now as who sucks just a little less the the othe sucky team. And they lost huge in the BB programs also. None of those teams brought in even compares to what they had to represent college BB.

Where do you play the title game? Kansas City? Dallas?

Good question. Not like any one spot would be fair. It would be along travel for most teams anywhere really. Imagine if it was SDSU v UCF. Say they did put it in KC, would fans even attempt the travel, esp in this money stricken times.

They may have to play the sucker at the home field of the team with the best record like the Pac-12 is doing. The Pac-12 did it because that conference is spread out. The Big North East South and West puts that to shame.

Thats a real possibility, but it would also mean half the country was asleep for the game at any given time if they do it.

If anyone has an idea of a stadium that could host this and not look half empty Id like to hear it.

Maybe the Edward Jones dome?? Its right about 66,000, weather wouldnt be a factor, and its kinda in the middle of the country.

It might be so bad they might have to put it in an arena game stadium and use small camera lenses just to make it look full.

Say Boise St makes it to the conference championship.

You are going to get one or the other on travel from the fans that will travel. Basically what they are going to do is make the Big East team the last team selected for the BCS simply because the bowl is going to want people to show up. The Boise fans that spent a few thousand the previous month are not likely to do it again.

Put the championship game aside and just look at these teams geography wise. Seriously how many fans travel to see a game between SDSU and UCF or even Boise and USF ? Somebody has have there head up somebody elses asss to even fathom the idea that any of this will work out. Big East not only lost 3 football teams but 3 really good basketball teams and they replace them with teams put all together dont compare to anything they lost. By inviting Boise/SDSU to the Big East i think they have signed there own death warrant. Think they lose money now, try to conveince fans to travel across country to watch a game then most likely travel across country for a championship game then travel again for a bowl game. Where these fans getting this kind of money? And most college teams travel by bus. Thats along ride from USF to Boise/SDSU or vice versa.

And WVU going to the Big 12 is just as stupid. Now if they would have went to the ACC or Big 10 i would have more understood, esp the Big 10. All those teams are there and it would set up some good rivalry games.

With all this Big East actions going on, i guess we can say good bye to any rivalry games from that conference. Only one that might become one is maybe USF v UCF but seriously how much attention outside of Florida will that bring. Just can't see UCONN and SDSU getting any kind of rivalry. I really enjoy the rivalry games. Teams get to brag for a year they won. Imagine the Big 12 without the red river shootout. Fun game to watch and i'm not even in the area.

WVU is stupid for joining us (especially when we could have taken Cincinnati or Louisville) but if they want to pay out the musket in travel costs, so be it.

And unfortunitly the travel costs will go both ways. I just don't get it why they did it. Wonder if they even talked to the Big 10 and just got turned down or if they didn't talk to them at all. It even would have been a good fit to go to the ACC. Hoping Pit/WVU keep their backyard brawl rivalry going but don't see it happening after they all move out of conference.

To an extent it goes both ways. The other 9 teams in this area only pay to go there once every other year. No biggie. They pay to bring their team to one of us 4-5 times every year.
