I think many assumed that we would not have to have this debate for several year due to the dominance of one Adrian Peterson. However, Chris Johnson has changed all of that this season. So how about it Outlaws, who's the best back in the league? Anyone else even close to these two, or do you feel someone else gets the nod?

AD's ball protection woes really hamper him. He has an unbelievable line and a Pro Bowl QB, yet Johnson out produces him. This one isn't close at this point, and until AD changes a few things to protect the ball, in won't ever be.

Great info on the fumbles, AP has lost 5 fumbles this year and fumbles 6 times in total. That is a lot of an elite back!

I believe that not only does he lead in fumbles this year, but he also already led the previous 2 seasons. As Aikmen said the other night. Jimmy Johnson would have benched him already, and AD is very lucky that his Coach and/or GM haven't yet.

If AD were to fumble vs. Peyton Manning, that fumble would become 7 points in a hurry.

It may be a smart idea for ADP to contact Tiki Barber to get the number of the coach which helped him cure his fumbling woes.

For me, it is a group of four. Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Steven Jackson, and Frank Gore. I think you can make a case for any of them. Force me to pick one and I go with Chris Johnson.

If ranking them, I guess it would go this way, though they are very close:
1. Chris Johnson
2. Steven Jackson
3. Frank Gore
4. Adrian Peterson

And to quantify my reasoning here. Take Adrian Peterson away from that Minnesota line and stick him behind the Rams line. I don't think the guy would last a season. Put Steven Jackson behind the Titans line or the Vikings line and he just might be the best back on this list.

I agree with you on Jackson, Gore....NO WAY! Fragile boy does not belong on that list IMO. I would put MJD ahead of him for sure, possibly others.

Peterson is consistent as hell and is the full package, BUT, RC hit a trump card with the fumbles....making me lean CJ at the moment, but his consistency scares me a bit, but hell, 6+ ypc is 6+ ypc, no matter how ya get there!!

yeah, I mentioned Peterson's fumbles in the past, but was labeled as a hater for it :) 9 fumbles last year, but luckily only lost 4 of them. Can you imagine this number if he was getting hammered at the line of scrimmage constantly?

you are a hater ;) you just ranked Frank Gore ahead of him......that is being a hater ;)

LOL, think about it though. How often would Gore be hurt if he was running behind the Vikings line?

How would Peterson's ankles hold up if he was constantly being hammered at the line of scrimmage?

Personally, I would put MJD before Jackson, Gore or AP.

C.Johnson
Maurice Jones-Drew
Stephen Jackson
Frank Gore
Adrien Peterson

I really considered MJD, but for some reason, I just can't find a way to include him.

MJD is an all around back who never needs to leave the field. He can block, catch, run, be a decoy, pick up the 7-10 split. What more do you need?

It's amazing how in just 3 months a discussion can change. This would have been a no discussion week 1, not Chris Johnson is the overwhelming choice! Kid is lighting in a bottle. Might be the most explosive back i have seen since Barry.

1-Steven Jackson
2-Chris Johnson
3-Adrian Peterson
4-MJD

If Jackson actually played for a legit NFL team instead of the Rams his numbers would be simply ridiculous.
