Bernard Scott creating a buzz

Bengals rookie RB is creating quite the buzz so far in camp and is listed as the #1 thing to look out for tonight during their intersquad scrimmage:

1. PREPARE FOR THE B. SCOTT BLITZ
Fans will come into the gates talking about rookie defensive end Michael Johnson and they'll leave buzzing about rookie running back Bernard Scott.
Scott has already been anointed the best rookie of the first week of camp by none other than quarterback Carson Palmer. The kid has jets and a knack for getting outside. He's 5-10, 200 pounds and has already been compared to Titans running back Chris Johnson by at least one teammate after Johnson's Rookie of the Year season last year.
But Scott's not worried about showing his balls skills Friday. "That's pretty natural," he said.
"I just need to show them in a game situation I know what I'm doing," Scott said. "That I can pick up a blitz and I can adapt to the speed of the game. I've been holding my own (in blitz pickup) but I think I can get in better position."
Scott says he's going to concentrate on his hand placement and making sure the blitzers don't get their hands inside his.

Interesting. One critique: Chris Johnson didn't win the Rookie of the Year last year. Matt Ryan did.

On to Scott though. One thing that impresses me about him right off of the bat is that he's interested in picking up blitzes better. Good for him. A rookie that's determined to get better, has their heart in the game... You can't ask for more than that.

Watson was cut today. I think the 3 HB's will end up being Benson, Leonard, and Scott. I like Leonard, not as much as Phic, but I like what he can do......he's just not a lead back, but he's a very nice jack of all trades type guy. Benson will be given the chance to be the workhorse, Leonard will be given a 3rd down role and Scott will be a change of pace guy who could earn a larger role with some success.

First I agree Benson will get first shot. I happen to not believe last year. I think we see him get dinged up early...and he returns to the tentative Benson of Chicago old.

Second, I agree Leonard is a jack of all trades. However, he was and is a lead back type. Yes, he did play some FB in Rutgers..but he was a heck of a runner, receiver and TB as well. Kid has talent.

I also love Scott. But my gut says they keep Dorsey for change of pace, and put Scott on developmental squad to protect him and see what happens.

Just my opinion though.

I share the skepticism around Benson but in the league I picked him up in I was keeping an eye on Scott. Thought I was in the clear when he made it to the waiver wire but didn't jump fast enough and someone else picked him up.

Leonard is a nice addition but I do not see him moving into the lead role but think Scott has a chance of eventually moving into such a role.

how does the developmental squad work, never heard of this, if they place him on the PS anyone can sign him right? i don't see them exposing him to the PS, he'll be gone if they do.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on Cedric Benson being the player he was in Chicago. He seems to have taken well to this team and brought forth a new work ethic, a work ethic which he admitted was lacking when he came into the NFL. He fits well into this offense with good receiving ability, which very possibly removes him from being involved in the typical RBBC that many teams are using, so I expect him to get the bulk all season long.

I say I expect him to get the bulk, because the team seemed to realize that he is the type of runner that gets stronger with regular carries throughout the game, rather than situational playing time.

I have been touting Scott since he was taken. He won't be on the developement squad, he will be on the suqad. Leonard might be the change of pace back in some peoles books, but it will be Scott. he is a gamer!!

That is why I thought he was worth a gamble but I was hoping to be able to hedge my bet by having Scott available. Once he went undrafted I thought it was safe to hold off on pulling the trigger on picking him up. My bad.

Haven't been keeping up with Scott very closely, but did read that he hurt his shoulder on Saturday. Any word on that injury? Don't want to get hurt when you are trying to make the 53.
