Bengals RB Cedric Benson should see a heavy workload!

Cedric Benson averaged 23 carries per start last season, which would project to 370 had he started all 16 games.

The Bengals sound like they will run Bensons' arse off this season and he should be a popular RB in redraft leagues. His value in Dynasty and keeper leagues is less established as Cedric has not been offered a contract extension and if he gets one it may be a last minute thang.

I am going to disagree here.

Let me couch this as MY interpretation of what I have seen, and what they have done depth wise and Wr wise, so net, my opinion here.

First, yes Benson will be a workhorse. However, I actually see his carries drop some this year. With the acquisition of Bryant for a viable #2 opposit Ocho, plus the plan to take another Te or Wr early in this draft, I look for alot more passing.

I also think they will use the rookie Rb from last year as change of pace quite a bit more to protect Benson from wear and tear in Bernard Scott.

However, none of this do i see as a real negative to Benson....as he will still get alot of use, and the bringing back the full O-line will only help.

I hope Benson will playing for a contract. Give him more incentive to have a good season. If he gets a big contract before the season, I would be weary of him not trying as hard.

rotoworld,
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Bengals RB Bernard Scott hurt his foot during Thursday's practice and watched the rest of practice from a golf cart. No word has been given from the team about the severity of the injury, but the fact that he watched the remainder of practice suggests it's not serious.
Analysis: We'll keep tabs on Scott's foot for you and deliver the latest news when we get it. Scott strikes us as a must-own insurance policy for those owners who spend a top pick on Cedric Benson, but not much else unless the league rewards special-teams yardage.

rotoworld,
Cedric Benson's representatives have approached the Bengals regarding a contract extension.

Benson is entering the final year of his deal and he says the Bengals are open to the idea of negotiating a new contract. The former No. 4 overall pick is 27 and coming off a career year, but the Bengals would probably be wise to make him prove it again. His rugged running style and questionable past make an extension risky, especially for the penny-pinching Bengals.

The cbssports.com spin,
The Dayton Daily News reports the Bengals could be on the verge of signing RB Cedric Benson to a long-term contract. The paper reports representatives for Benson have approached Bengals management regarding a contract extension since Benson is in the final year of a two-year deal, making him a free agent at the end of the 2010 season. Benson is coming off his most productive season. He started 13 regular-season games for Cincinnati and led the team in rushing with 1,251 yards and six touchdowns. He rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries in a playoff loss to the Jets and was the eighth-leading rusher in the league. Benson said he is looking to build off last year and play well in 2010. "Things are coming to me a lot easier this year," Benson said. "Even if there is a play that I'm not 100 percent sure about, it's easy to dissect it faster before the ball is snapped. I've made big improvements in that aspect, and I'm a lot more comfortable in the offense. I think I'm more explosive making plays down the field and have improved on my overall speed, strength and endurance."

Analysis: We like Benson to continue to play well like he did in 2009. The offense should become more balanced in Cincinnati with an improved passing game, but Benson will still be the catalyst on offense and have the chance to score in short-yardage situations. We like Benson as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy RB, and he should be drafted in all leagues beginning in the early part of Round 2. We'd prefer if Benson would remain in a contract year with the motivation of a new deal hopefully carrying him through the season, but he should still perform at a high level even if he gets paid.

rotoworld spin,
According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals and Cedric Benson are in the "early stages" of discussions regarding a contract extension.

Though nothing is imminent, Reedy's report suggests that the Bengals are at least open to the idea of signing Benson long term. Benson was an attendee to all offseason practices, so he's smartly not threatening to hold out. A deal might happen later in the year if Benson starts the season hot.

I don't want Benson to get a long term deal this year. He might get lazy. Make him earn a new contract with another stellar year.

First, I don't see any extension soon. They have to tie up the two Cbs who are much more important.

Secondly ..... If they DO resign Benson. It won't be a long extension. They have been burned too many times on this. I would see at the most a one or two year extension...and not at huge money. Its just how they work.

that being said...I am really surprised they did not address Rb in the draft. As I don't know if Scott could handle a full load as starter. I do believe as Miller stated that they will look at Unga

rotoworld,
According to Bengals play-by-play voice Brad Johansen, the team "may be real close" to a three-year extension for Cedric Benson.

The Bengals would reportedly rework the final year of Benson's contract, giving him between $16 and $20 million through the 2013 season. Benson's 96.2 rushing yards per game were second only to Chris Johnson last season, and the Bengals appear to be serious about locking him up -- perhaps before the onset of training camp.
