It is who j.j. said mud... we have ben hearing pretty good stuff since... his success with the al's (in championship game 3 of 4 years, won twice), his ability to get plays in and not blow challenges and timeouts, his scouting of kaepernick and wilson, and he has been the NFL draft training coach for QBs and has worked with alotta guys out today, including jay cutler and jason campbell...
to orgazmo's point... he was coordinator for gannon's mvp season (02) with the raiders, when thy lost to the bucs in the superbowl and led the NFL in total offense. he was QB coach of bernie kosar and became coordinator (in cleveland) in 89, when kosar threw for 3500 and webster slaughter set a team record with 1236 receiving yards... oh... and the browns made it to the afc championship that year... in 95/96 he was the OC for the 9ers, when they led the NFL in points scored and passing yards (steve young, lost to GREEN BAY/favre both years after being 11-5 and 12-4) '98 he was OC for the cardinals, who made the playoffs for the first time since 1982 and won their first playoff game in 51 years (jake plummer)... This doesnt mean anything to his current coaching but I would say far from his "offenses being unimpressive when he was coordinator." And his system "taking a few years" appears inaccurate as well because most of his great successes are in the first or second year of his arrival.
These are just some of the things we have been hearing, and no, it doesn't mean he will be great (I'm still kinda on the mccoy train, damn) but if history is any indication he has taken some good Quarterbacks and gotten Great out of them, and gotten some good teams way further than they should have been able to get. As of now, I'm ok with this hire
